Human Tetris

So Tetris celebrated its 25th birthday last week and as a lover of Tetris, I’m always on the lookout for Tetris themed stuff. I know that I’m a dork. I embrace my dorkiness.
Apparently I’m not the only dork out there since this video has received over nine MILLION views on YouTube.
Who’s the dork now?
Improving Lifting Technique

No workout again today as I continue to spend most of my time studying, but I do have a video for you from YouTube I want to critique. Before I start, in fairness to the maker of the videos, its a lot easier to sit on the computer and point out flaws than to be in the gym doing the work, but there is bad form/technique and the creator proceeds to give advice on lifting weights in the comments.

First video had embedding disabled, but here is the link. The first thing I see wrong here is he isn’t meeting the exercise, he’s kind of shying away from the curls to start off with. When you go for a lift, meet it head on. In fact, you its sometimes good to exaggerate the movements to get the full effect.
Second, the weight is way too heavy for this guy. He comes right out of the gate rocking. A lot more bicep and a lot less body is needed. Third, I’m not exactly sure what his last 1/5th reps were going to accomplish, especially sense he rocked with them too. Another huge flaw was the music but hey if Wild Thing gets you going, well there you go.
Always take advice you get from people in the gym with a grain of salt - even trainers and even me. Everybody has their own agenda and opinions and some people don’t even know what they’re talking about. Its disappointing a lot of teens on YouTube want to start lifting weights and are looking to these videos on guidance and the people making the videos are hopped on steroids, don’t know what they’re doing, and/or are creating false impressions for beginners. There are even some weight lifting videos from kids 13, 14 and younger which is unfortunate because its really too early for them to be hitting the iron.
I think any age before 15 should be engaged in activities to be physically fit, but weight training should be left out of the equation. At the very most, weight training should be very, very light at this age.
Sunny Days, Baseball and The Flip Camera

It’s that time of year again. Time to spend some hours at the park watching your kids play baseball and other sports right? That’s exactly what I did today and it was absolutely gorgeous here in Indianapolis. This is the second season my son will be playing baseball, but it’s the first year I’ve been able to get video of him and his team playing on my Flip Ultra video camera.

It’s absolutely perfect for this kind of stuff and came in really handy today. I was able to quickly get clips of each of his team members batting that I’m sure their families will enjoy seeing once I get them posted to Vimeo, my preferred online sharing location for video. The quality is just so much better than what you get on YouTube.
The Flip is just handy for pulling out of your pocket and grabbing a quick video of something you’d like to remember or share with others. In my opinion it’s even handier than my digital camera most of the time. It’s almost single button operation allows you to quickly pull it out, turn it on and almost immediately start recording.
One area I think it could be improved on though is the ability to choose more locations to upload your video from the Flip software you use to manage the files. Vimeo isn’t one of the locations currently specified, so I have to do stuff a bit manually.

Jason was kind enough to accept my guest posts for his blogs Microsoft Weblog and Uncover the Internet. These are my first guest posts ever: one about Microsoft’s involvement with Open Source and another about watching movies legally on Youtube. I hope you enjoy them.
Tech Channel Roundup From Steve Jobs to Steve Ballmer
First Juan was not excited about this year’s MacWorld. Then he worried about Steve Jobs’ hormone imbalance, which I must say is something only Apple lovers are capable of. Now, after watching MacWorld ‘09, he decides that Phil Schiller’s keynote was just fine.

PC Vs Mac Transformers Video
I came across an amusing short film through one of my twitter friends, @stanleytang. The video has some wonderful visual effects, takes unexpected turns, and keeps us at the edge of the seat. Inspired by Transformers, what starts off as a harmless debate about whether the PC or the Mac is greater turns into a full-blown battle between… you will see what.
I am looking forward to the sequels. Tell me there are sequels. Dan Chianelli and Nick Granlee are the directors of the movie. The latter calls himself a digital impositor and you can find more of his videos on his website.
