Are Geeks Cool?

Is it just me or are geeks becoming popular these days?! Ok so what really is a geek then. Someone who wears glasses and carries a calculator in his shirt and a pen in his pocket? Snorts when they laugh and then push up their glasses on their nose? That’s one way of looking at them I guess – In Saved By The Bell years!

Geeks these days are cool! They very often still wear glasses, maybe some of them wear tight jeans, but they actually are the ones getting the girls! If you are a geek girl you hide it a little more. My sister just got married a few years ago. I love him to death but I’m going to be honest, he is a bit of a geek!

I say this to his face all the time so I’m not going be hind his back or anything, but ya, I would consider him to be a geek. What does he do? He is a stem cell researcher. And not only that, he is a brilliant one. He loves his job, and he wears glasses. Who does he marry? My sister. Well, she is a geek too. She wears the glasses, and she is 29 years old and still in school. She can’t get enough of the books.

During Christmas time, we all still make our Christmas lists to give to Santas (ok, I guess just that makes us all geeks alone!) but mine includes clothes, games, toys, electronics, gift cards, etc. What’s on hers? The latest psychology addition hard cover, 600 pages. What’s on her husbands? The latest stem and biology hard cover book ‘Best Scientists Theories” or something like that.

The funniest part is that they are an adorable, happy, good looking couple. Two geeks in a pod! All my girl friends have crushes on him, and all my guy friends have crushes on my sister. So what is this telling me? Should I stop trying to be ‘cool’ and start trying to be ‘geek’?
