Alan Green, the BBC’s resident racist does it again. Tired of picking on Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce, Liverpool’s favourite hack has another go at Everton

Ofcom regulate the majority of the communications industry in the UK.  One of the key things they regulate is the integrity of a broadcast, in particular to ensure that “the news, in whatever form, is reported with due accuracy and presented with due impartiality”.  In fact anyone reading Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code would find it difficult to understand how Alan Green could get a job anywhere as a journalist …until you realise that the code does not apply to the BBC.

Once you understand that then Alan’s career with the BBC becomes apparent.

You see Alan happens to be one of the most reviled and bigoted members of the Broadcasting profession, whilst amazing also being one of the BBC’s favourite sons.  However, its only the BBC who thinks this, and as they are (currently) excluded from Ofcom’s regulations then they can apparently get away with allowing him to air his bigoted views.

And some of those views are corkers.

“Me no cheat”, a reference to Manchester United’s Djemba-Djemba’s ability to speak English, which amazingly Ofcom did intervene in saying, “”We considered that the suggestion that a black player was incapable of speaking grammatical English was inappropriate, particularly given the drive to eradicate racist attitudes in football”.  The BBC’s response was that Mr Green’s comments were “ill judged”.

“Number 17 – that’ll be the chicken chow mein, then” Mr Green’s reference to Manchester City’s Sun Jahai was also said to be “ill judged” by his BBC bosses.

Alan isn’t just bigoted about race, he’s also bigoted about football too, which you would think would be something of a drawback for a football commentator ….but not in the BBC apparently….

He freely admits that he hates Sir Alex Ferguson on a “personal level”, and when Everton took his precious Liverpool’s fourth place a couple of seasons ago, Mr Green’s impartial comments were, “David Moyes should see a doctor”.  The following season he had a falling out with Sam Allardyce for calling his team’s football, “ugly” (although Mr Green swears the falling out had more to do with Big Sam’s friendship with Sir Alex).

And now Mr Green has done it again.  He’s called Sylvester Stallone a “B-list celebrity” (surely not anywhere near Mr Green’s league?), and then he inferred that local Liverpudlians were likely to be thieves by saying Mr Stallone had got to check whether “his limousine was on bricks”.

Again the BBC came out with yet another statement, this time saying Mr Green’s remarks were “meant to be humorous but they were not” and that they apologised for the offence caused.

And that is where the trouble lies.  The BBC has given Mr Green his voice on 606, and in that role as a talk show host, his job is to shock, to be controversial and to entertain.  Admittedly most of the tedious drivel talked about on the show makes most intelligent people lose interest very quickly, but it seems to keep Mr Green amused and as long as he has his cohorts calling in then the BBC is happy.

But its when he transfers his talk-show script to his day job, that of sports journalist and football commentator that Mr Green and the BBC lose control.  Mr Green is not there as a pundit, he’s there to commentate on the game not to raise his profile through his outrageous comments, but because he’s a luvvie of the BBC it seems he’s immune from the codes of practice with govern other broadcasters.

In all these apologies, not one has come from Mr Green himself, who sits in his castle in the sky, smirking his little smirk, chortling all the way to the bank.

No doubt the BBC will be issuing yet another apology from him soon, although I’m not sure how long the government and the regulators will allow the BBC Governors to keep flaunting their disregard for decent behaviour, and allowing the racist loud mouth bigot to keep pushing up his profile at the BBC’s expense.

My question is…..Why are all the Everton players so short? Could it be because they play for such a small club?!

  2. Sack the Juggler says:

    No Class Lumphead….

  3. willie says:

Recently, I listening to a game in the car, alongside my wife. Although completely disinterested in all things football she nevertheless commented that “that guy (Green) is constantly moaning”.
On Saturday I listened to the Liverpool Everton game. Every time Pennant got the ball Green criticised him. Later I saw a recording of the whole game and thought that Pennant was no better or worse than any of the other Liverpool players. Why did he single out Pennant?
When his summariser is Jimmy Armfield I think you can clearly detect that Armfield is not at ease working with Green.
Green is a complete horror. A nasty character who’s vitriol should not be tolerated.

Mmmm hasn’t anyone ever heard of “freedom of speech” ? I am a Liverpool fan but have no allegience to Alan Green, his style is quite abrasive but ultimately you don’t have to listen to him if you feel that offended !

I hear him criticise a lot of teams and players during his commentaries, he also makes silly comments at times but nothing worse than you hear at the Grounds themselves or down the pub.

Come on guys chill out and maybe we should consider the words attributed to Voltaire, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

  5. Sack the Juggler says:

Voltaire also said “Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices” and that is the ultimate power of the racist; to belittle others and make it seem acceptable.

  6. lfcrule1972 says:

True – but as intelligent human being I don’t “believe” the absurdities that come out of Mr Green’s mouth !

I treat then like other such comments as either ill-judged or a mistake but I still believe that Freedom of Speech should allow him to say what he likes whether or not you or I agree with him.

  7. Mifu says:

Alan Green is just a pompous self-orientated tabliod equivalent commentator who is so much blinded by his biter apartheid bullshit and liverpool bias, that really shows he has no real football insight! I don’t mind commentators having a light humered bias & rivalry with supporters, but his constant hypocrisy and bitter comments makes him unlistenable, hell I even think the liverpool fans don’t even like him. Give me Jonathon Pearce every time!

  8. smiffinch says:

I know I’m a little late on this one but I’ve just had to turn Radio 5 off due to Green. I Googled “shut up Alan Green” and found this blog.

Alan Green is just an atrocious moaning fat old boor. It’s mind-boggling to think that he’s employed by anyone to commentate on football.

There should be an orchestrated campaign to get him off the air.

  9. lfcrule1972 says:

Can you add Ian Wright to that campaign then please ? Oh and Paul Merson on Soccer Saturday – both idiots.

  10. Cassandra says:

Frankly, who cares…? Football’s a game played by moronic children and enjoyed by inebriate chauvinists. That a leading commentator has proven a xenophobic boor is surely the largest non-event since England’s participation in the last World Cup.

Pass the chillum, darling, I’m off for something far more interesting….and do try to sublimate your sexual instincts with something a little less predictable than competitive sports!

  11. Martyn Bright says:

Alan Green has just said live on 5 Live during the Everton v Chelsea Carling semi final, ” that shows those prats that say I always crtisise referees a thing or too” . As the Chairman of a youth football club, I have always thought Greens critism was more to do with his “on air” persona as the fans hero, rather than constructive comment on what is a very difficult job. What 13 year old would chose to ref an under 8 match when referees as so vilified by football commentators. Our club is very fortunate that we have 9 players willing to train to referee on a Saturday when they play on a sunday. Green is distructive and shoud be sacked forthwith.

  12. Mirha says:

    Smart commentator!

  13. Twanster says:

So there are other people who are so frustrated by the annoying blob of vitriol known as Alan Green that they have also typed into google and found this blog. The man is an arrogant, self-serving, opinionated twot, and I can’t stand him. Listen to any of his commentaries and I guarantee that within a minute or two (usually first sentence if he picks up commentary half way through a half) he will say ‘awful’, ‘disgraceful’, ‘ridiculous’ or some similar personal view – anything that pours scorn on what he witnesses solely because he loves the sound of his own voice and his own opinions. As has been mentioned earlier by several posters, he should just be verbalising what he sees, not what he thinks.

  14. lfcrule1972 says:

His commentary is always angled towards promoting debate and discussion as should all commentary. A monotone reporting of the basic match facts would get very boring fast….. look at Andy Townsend on CL coverage for ITV as an e.g of this.

  15. Twanster says:

Errrm, no it shouldn’t. A radio commentator should stick to reporting what he/she sees, not what they personally think. You are actually spot on though – ‘his’ commentary always leads to debate and discussion because he talks such bollocks and he is such an egotist. A description of the action on the pitch is what I tune in to hear, and as the listener’s eyes, the flabby get should just concentrate on reporting that. He generally hosts 606 afterwards which is a far more suitable forum for the opinionated arse to spout his nonsense, and the perfect opportunity for the more discerning to switch off and do something else instead.

  16. senoj says:

Alan green is an absolute fukn wnker. How does he ever keep his job. Knows as much about football as i do about ladies netball.. what a cnut!! Read his predictions about the champions league final in the Belfast Telegraph, then go back to the start of this mesage and repeat process

  17. james says:

well said, green should go and die somewhere quietly, he is a tosser beyond belif and his rants at rafa have become a joke!!!

  18. liam says:

Seriously go fuck yourself, Alan is one of the best commentators on the radio.

He tells it like it is and does it well, I don’t want to hear some shit old man telling us how good England are and that everything is wonderful and rosey.

    Legend

  19. yen says:

mr green should be shot . .
    along with john gaunt

  20. lfcrule1972 says:

Yawn…… I would take Alan Greens commentary over the crap that Jamie Redknapp spouts week in week out on Sky anyday…..

The fact that there are still posts here about him just shows that he gets peoples attentions and promotes debate – job done for a journalist ! ;)

  21. Mark says:

Wrong wrong wrong. You missunderstand completly Greeney is a legend. Besides, have you been on the terraces lately, the language and comments you hear are much more horrific and abusive than the ones you are complaining about here. I have stopped going to games now because of the continued racist and homophobic insults that are regularly dished out to players and officials. What gives football fans the right to think that they can use such foul and hurtful language? mark

  22. lfcrule1972 says:

Yes I have been to matches lately thanks for asking, I don’t think the abuse is any worse than it has been in the past.

This may not be true of all games (Pompey v Spurs) but I don’t know what the Spurs fans were chanting at Sol Campbell to be able to comment on that – I think we can all guess though.

  23. tony benham says:

Re-Alan Green. I can’t stand the guy. I thought he was just anti-(the team I support), but he gives the same stupid abusive treatment to everyone else. If a team score, its as though they are the undisputed best team in the world, but if they miss a shot, he’d have you believe thier manager is the next to be sacked. I think his mindset is that he expects football to be like basketball, continuous end-to-end stuff, attacking from one goalmouth to the other. That shows an obvious lack of depth in his own industry. He is so negative about everything, mostly on stuff that has nothing to do with what’s happening on the pitch at the time. Anything that resembles a side or back-pass makes him suicidal he is so negative!
As its been said before, many times I have heard his live commentary, then later watched the same game on TV, only it looks like a completely different game to the one he commentated on. He doesn’t do his own business any favours that’s for sure and too often he imposes his own shallow opinions on the game he is watching. I’m sure most people just want to know or hear over the radio, what is happening in the game, not his stupid opinions. Where are David Coleman and Ken Wolstenholme when you need them?

  24. lfcrule1972 says:

“Where are David Coleman and Ken Wolstenholme when you need them?”

I suspect the latter is dead….

  25. Jamie says:

Talking **** mate. Racist for saying Djemba-Djemba can’t speak English? If he’d made the same comment about Luigi Di Canio, no one would have picked up on it, let alone claim he was racist. Once again, you’re a typical journalist, desperate for attention by claiming a white person is racist for criticising a black person! Pathetic. Yes, you’re right about the Sun Jihai comment being racist, he was wrong to say that. But there was nothing about racist about the Djemba-Djemba comment, and you wouldn’t have mentioned it if he was white! Just grow up instead of being bitter at someone who knows his football “a little” better than you (yes that’s the most generous I can ever be), you idiots

  26. Malkit Singh says:

Alan green is a m0ther f0cker..a white motherfucker, a white basterd
