Liverpool Chelsea Diving – Why punish Rob Styles?

On Sunday Liverpool were denied victory when Rob Styles controversially awarded a penalty to Chelsea after Steve Finnan appeared to bring down Malouda in the penalty area. To those watching at home it was clear there was no contact fron Finnan and that Malouda went down far too easily. So if Mr Styles was wrong to award the penalty does that mean Malouda has deliberately deceived him? If so then why punish Rob Styles with a one match ban, why not punish the individual who cheated to get the penalty? Why not? Because the FA are not allowed to use video evidence to change a decision. They can only use it to rule on an incident that was missed by the referee, so even if the referee saw it incorrectly, the decision made on the pitch will... [Read more]
Open Letter to Everton Chairman, Bill Kenwright

The following letter has been forwarded to The Footie in order that the feelings of a sigificant number of Evertonians from around the world about how the club is behaving regarding the proposed move can be aired and also passed onto the club, and specifically its Chairman Bill Kenwright. Dear Bill Moving from Goodison is going to be a major heart wrench, I know without massive investment staying there is impractical. So, like most Evertonians, I waited to see the club’s plans. I genuinely quite like the new stadium however the financial proposals lack substance. Colin Fitz has, more eloquently than I am able, asked pertinent questions about the Kirkby proposal. http://www.toffeeweb.com/season/07-08/comment/fan/article.asp?submissionID=2125 I... [Read more]
Everton, the Great Debate? or the Grand Illusion?

Sometime in the next few weeks a select band of Evertonians will get the chance to vote on the future location of their club, …or is it the future of their club? Because according to Keith Wyness if the Club doesn’t move to the new promised land then it will cease to exist in a few short years, and conversely those against this particular move, spout the same mantra about the future (or lack of it) if the club moves outside the city. So with all these contrary opinions spinning around, what is the truth regarding the future of the club? Well the club certainly needs a bigger stadium if its going to have the financial clout to regularly break into the top four again. A bigger stadium would increase revenues for the club from fans... Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal will be there, but who else from Spurs, Everton, Manchester City, West Ham and Newcastle will join Aston Villa in the top six?

Nigel Reo-Cocker, the player who claimed he was hung out to dry by the club who loved him, is now suggesting that now Aston Villa have bought his services then they can expect a top six finish. But how realistic is that? Next season we can fully expect the top two to be Manchester United and Chelsea again, and probably in that order, although I suspect it’ll be a nail-biting last day of the season this time. Liverpool have improved their squad, and while they will push the top two closer, they will finish third again. They still need to improve in other areas of the part and to stop bringing in players like Voronin and Benayoun. Arsenal will be pushed by Spurs for fourth place but this time I reckon Spurs will do it, with Arsenal... [Read more]
Who would be a Manchester City supporter?

Supporting Manchester City must be painful enough, not only do they have to put up with their neighbour’s success, but they have had little to cheer about in recent years, apart from a new stadium and the joys of promotion (although to do so they need to be relegated first), however recent events must have even the most die-hard blue shaking their heads in disbelief. After a dismal season which saw them score only 10 home league goals, the club decides to sack their manager Stuart Pearce, quickly followed out the door by their assistant manager and reserve team coach. They did this despite issuing a statement mid-season regarding a possible take-over, something that has gained momentum during the close season, and in sacking the management... [Read more]
