Benitez leaving, Show me the money, Sack the Board; are some Liverpool fans getting a bit carried away?

A quick trawl of the boards will show you that some Liverpool fans are getting twitchy.  They’ve heard rumours that Rafa is sick of not being backed by the board, that he is leaving if he doesn’t get an instant transfer kitty, that the “promised” huge transfer investment will not be forthcoming, and there are even those who are claiming they have been let down by Hicks and Gillett. But hang on a minute lads, Tom and George have only just moved in.  Give them a decent honeymoon period before you start having a go at them, afterall you’re not Newcastle are you? No Rafa hasn’t bought anyone yet, but that doesn’t mean he’s not active.  Most of his quoted targets have been in the Spanish league,... [Read more]

Say what you like about Joey Barton, but whether he goes he causes controversy.  Usually its with the his fists or the lit end of a cigar, but now he’s causeing problems by just doing nothing. Poor Big Sam is screaming that City are being unfair; ” They’re out of order. I’m flabbergasted and I want the situation resolved.” “I cannot understand it because City didn’t pay anything for this player as he came through the youth system and they are selling him for over £5m.” Yes, well Sam, of course City should be over the moon about selling one of their best assets for only £5m.    That should go a long way towards the left leg of his replacement…. Big Sam then goes on to say, ”All... [Read more]

Liverpool fans – best in the world? or an accident waiting to happen?

Lets get something straight from the off.  Most of the Liverpool fans I know, who go to the game, enjoy a good laugh and love their club.  They have supported the club since boyhood and have been through all its highs and lows.  They are well behaved and truly believe they are ambassadors for the club when traveling abroad to support Liverpool FC. They are typical of most Liverpool fans and they represent the majority of the support that Liverpool has…. however, there is a growing minority of Liverpool fans who think its is ok to bunk into sold out games, to rob tickets, to intimidate locals and opposition fans alike, and even to attack opposition fans when away representing their club.  I know all clubs have their moronic minority,... [Read more]

A footballing lesson for Liverpool, perhaps Manchester United or Chelsea would have better represented England?

AC Milan proved the old saying; form is temporary, class is permanent.  Despite a plucky Liverpool managing to hold the game to 2 – 1 with a combination of hard work and passion, Milan never really got out of second gear and should still have won this game 3 – 0.  The only reason they didn’t was an overzealous linesman mistakenly giving Kaka offside whilst at the other end the linesman allowed Kuyt’s goal to stand even though he was standing in an offside position.   Liverpool played well enough and pushed forward from the off, but while Milan made several mistakes at the back, Liverpool never looked like capitalising on them, and even when Alonso went close Dida still had it covered and allowed it to drift out. ... [Read more]

A Successful Season for Chelsea and Manchester United? But what about Liverpool and Arsenal?

And so the FA cup final draws yet another season to an end, and what has it shown us?  Well for a kick off its shown us that the FA cup no longer marks the end of the season, as we still have a little matter of Liverpool v Milan later this week. The FA cup final itself was a bit sterile, but just Chelsea edged it both in terms of play and in goals!  Chelsea seemed more up for it than United, for whom Ronaldo, Rooney and even Giggs seemed to go missing for large parts of the game. Perhaps, after a long and stressful season United were more than happy with bringing home the Premiership title, something that Chelsea would have no doubt swapped for their trophy haul of FA Cup and Carling Cup.  Manchester United have led from the front in the... [Read more]
