The Bordeaux Girondins were in Montreal to play the En avant Guingamp Club for the Champions Trophy on Saturday, July 25. I guess they decided that since they were there anyways they’d play the Montreal Impact.

Bordeaux captain, Alou Diarra, celebrates after winning the Champions Trophy soccer match against En avant Guingamp in Montreal.

The two teams faced off yesterday at the Saputo Stadium and resulted in a not surprising Bordeaux 2-1 victory. The friendly match is a good sign that the Impact are serious about joining the MLS. The Impact have gain a reputation as a competitive and well organized team, yet the MLS still chose the Vancouver Whitecaps as the new franchise addition instead of the Impact. Hopefully with more recognition Montreal will not be overlooked as a great place for soccer.
