The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup opened Friday in Rio De Janeiro. The most noteworthy game included the United States and Spain’s national beach soccer teams in what can only be called an American defeat.
“Spain led 4-2 midway through the game when Jevin Albuquerque and Mario Chimienti scored 34 seconds apart to tie it. But Spain answered with four goals in just over three minutes, capped by a pair from Amarelle only 19 seconds apart.” – Associated Press
Other games included the defending champion Brazil who defeated Solomon Island 11-2. Brazil have won 10 out of the 12 championships that have taken place when Beach Soccer began on an international scale since 1995. Portugal defeated Iran 1-0. Mexico outed Russia 2-1. France stalled United Arab Emirates6-5.
