FIFA Investigates Racism Allegations Against Croatia

Allegedly, Croatian fans were spewing racist comments at England’s, Emile Heskey in a match during the World Cup qualifyers. The game against England and Croatia took place last week at Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb. On Wednesday, FIFA announced that an official complaint, made by the EFA, was made against Croatia.

FIFA said, ”FIFA can confirm that it has received an official request from the FA yesterday evening to investigate allegations of racist chanting at the Croatia vs England qualification match for the 2010 FIFA World Cup played in Zagreb on September 10 2008. FIFA has opened a disciplinary procedure to look into this matter.”

Rightfully, Heskey was not happy with what went down that day. Especially since it has only been about 3 months since Croatia was fined almost £10,000 (18,058 USD) by the UEFA, due to racist behavior of the fans against Turkey during the Euro 2008.

Heskey says, “You have to let the people above deal with that and I’ll carry on playing my game. They are ignorant people, you have to ignore it and enjoy your game. Their players weren’t happy about it either.”

Wow. Honestly, that’s disgusting. If Croatian fans keep going the way they’re going, something major is going to have to be done. I’m not just talking fines, I’m talking banning them from games. That’s horrible.
