Gerrard Creates More Injury Worries For Sven

Sven Goran Eriksson could be forgiven for thinking that the footballing gods are more than a little p*ssed off with him as he guides his England side in to battle for the last time at this World Cup.

You may have heard quiet rumours of an injury to Wayne Rooney over the past few weeks (unsurprisingly after the bicycle kick pictures this week, the Roonster is going to available though unlikely to take part until the 2nd round at least) and now Steven Gerrard is rated as only having a 50% chance of making the first group game against Paraguay.

With the form Steven Gerrard has been in for the past year or more I think this is an even bigger blow to England than the potential loss of Wayne Rooney although it will give Sven some breathing room when he does his usually unthinkable team selection and makes Frank Lampard his main man in the centre of midfield and now doesn’t have to explain why he is sticking Steven Gerrard out of position on the flanks.

Steven Gerrard is the only England player really worthy of the tag “World Class” and if he plays a limited role then Sven is really and truly on a hiding to nothing when it comes to bringing that trophy home and finally burying all talk of nineteen sixty bloody six (yes folks, my Trinidad and Tobago shirt is ready for it’s inaugural wearing come 15th June).
