Iraq Hires Bora Milutinovic As New Coach

Despite the war and having the lowest standard of living in the world right now, Iraq’s National Soccer Team is going strong.  The team has just acquired Serbian head coach Bora Milutinovic.

WC2002-CHN-MILUTINOVIC-TRAINING

With the recent sacking of Brazilian national Jorvan Vieira as head coach of the Iraq team, there was a void left amidst an unguided team.  Vieira was fired after a disappointing blunder during the Gulf Cup.

Milutinovic brings some experience to the table as he has served as head coach during the World Cup games with Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), United States (1994), Nigeria (1998), and China (2002).  His most recent gig had him coaching the Jamaica national team.  His recent leave from Jamaica in 2007 however was due over contract disputes.

It is still uncertain what his contract with Iraq will be worth but with the country being one of the few with a trillion dollar surplus I would imagine it would be a substantial amount.  Not that that money would be better suited towards health-care or education.

War and inner political problem has destroyed football game in Iraq. However, view of general people has changed a lot in Iraq. Now, general people are focusing more in different works. However, economic recession all around the world makes the life critical and put under threat. But this thing has helped Iraq to focus more on football. Now, Iraqi players are busy to make a place in the world cup qualifying team. To make their dream come true, coach Bora Milutinovic is helping them. I hope that under his guidance Iraq football team will develop a lot. What is your opinion?

Maybe. He has coached many teams to levels no one expected of them. Why not Iraq? Good luck!
