Le Sulk Anelka Heading Back To The Premiership

Every summer we get the transfer rumours involving some English club or another trying to forgive past indiscretions and tame the wild footballing beast known more commonly as “Le Sulk” (by the tabloids) or as his parents call him, Nicolas Anelka.

Every summer the player finds a reason not to join the mentioned club and for the past couple of years has stayed in virtual exile in Turkey with Fenerbahce. This summer looks like being different however and it’s a surprising destination that’s now being talked about.

Anelka has claimed over the weekend that he has agreed a four year deal with Sam Allardyce’s Bolton Wanderers and that he could have the whole deal finalised by the start of this week. My how the mighty have fallen! Once upon a time it was Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool fighting over Anelka’s signature but after so many years of sulking, moodiness and constant transfers it looks like it’s Last Chance Saloon under the watchful of Big Sam.

Bolton have been desperately looking for a striker all summer (not too desperately on Saturday mind you when they turned Spurs over rather convincingly) and Anelka could very well offer them something they haven’t had in a while - attacking pace. Kevin Davies is a big lump, an effective lump but a lump nonetheless. His physical attributes and battling spirit are what has made him an effective attacking option for Bolton but Anelka offers something a little different. His pace should link up well with another odious character in the Bolton side in El Hadji Diouf and could well shoot Bolton into the top six once again.

Whether Sam could get even one season out of Anelka without a fallout or walkout remains to be seen, his is a fine talent ruined, as often happens, by an undeserving personality. If Sam Allardyce can tame the Anelka demons he could well make the signing of the summer.

On the other hand, we could be looking at the transfer tittle tattle next summer again and see that Anelka is falunting his wares around another European club as he’s grown bored of life at the Reebok already.

Time will tell.

So Bolton are the big club that will guarantee Anelka champions leagues football? or is he just moving for another slice of his lucrative cake?

I honestly can’t see why anyone would want Anleka in the side, yes, we all know that he is a fantastic footballer, but only when he wants to play, and if he doesn’t want to play? then he’s off, after slagging off the club, the manager, the fans, the press, the milkman, the milkman’s cat, in fact anyone who is to blame for the fact that poor old Anelka is not regularly playing for a “big” club.

P.S. someone should point out to the sulky faced git, that he WAS playing for some BIG clubs but he decided that he wanted to play for even BIGGER clubs… and look where its led him…all the way from Highbury to the Reebok… D’oh!

Another in a long line of wasted talents sadly. Arsenal must be laughing all the way to the bank having lifted £23m from Real Madrid for him after signing him for £500k as a youngster and then having the sense to jog him on.

He must have made a fortune from signing on bonuses in his time. His loyalty bonuses shouldn’t be as high though ;-)
