The Marseille FC honored their late owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus before their first home game against the Bordeaux FC at the Stade Velodrome in Monpellier. Robert Louis-Dreyfus died on July 4th 2009 at his Zurich home after a long battle with Leukemia – he was only 63 years old.

The Franco-Swiss businessman was known for his down to earth personality and his love for soccer was an obsession. Success seemed to follow Robert Louis-Dreyfus as he became the CEO of Adidas and later the majority shareholder of the Marseille FC in 1996. He soon helped finance the team by popularizing their team shirts. Sadly one of the last Marseille games he watched was the one against the Bordeaux FC that ended in a loss for his team. Robert Louis-Dreyfus leaves behind a wife and three sons. And yes he is related to Seinfeld’s Juila Louis-Dreyfus – she is his cousin.
