Nelspruit Stadium Workers on Strike

April 6, 2008 by Jyle Dupuis

South African workers involved in building a 2010 World Cup stadium in Nelspruit have gone on strike demanding better pay. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said that workers at the Mbombela World Cup stadium stopped work Wednesday morning, bringing all construction at the stadium to a halt.

This kind of behaviour in South Africa just further proves that they are ill-equipped to prepare and host the 2010 World Cup. I’m sure FIFA is getting nervous about their decision. I mean they don’t seem to be treating their workers properly and they are having to fork out lots of money in preparation.
