Say what you like about Joey Barton, but whether he goes he causes controversy. Usually its with the his fists or the lit end of a cigar, but now he’s causeing problems by just doing nothing.
Poor Big Sam is screaming that City are being unfair; ” They’re out of order. I’m flabbergasted and I want the situation resolved.”
“I cannot understand it because City didn’t pay anything for this player as he came through the youth system and they are selling him for over £5m.”
Yes, well Sam, of course City should be over the moon about selling one of their best assets for only £5m. That should go a long way towards the left leg of his replacement….
Big Sam then goes on to say, ”All I know is that this is a matter for Joey to sort out and I hope it is resolved as it has stopped him putting pen to paper.” Oh, so its not City’s fault, its Joey’s – make your mind up Sam! Or is it that you just don’t want to get involved incase you get asked to fork out Joey’s £300k to “smooth things over”?
The truth is that City have done nothing wrong here, Barton has asked to leave after clobbering his team mate, so why should they pay Barton any compensation? Big Sam is just playing games, but it’ll be interesting to see if Michael Owen also has any leaving payments due when Newcastle accept a bid for him…..

barton must owe city about 3 years wages in loyalty payments city have made him a decent player and stuck by him when most teams would of wrote him off a long time ago big sam should shut his mouth like joey he too has got away with certain issues and is very lucky to still be in football i hope the board stick to their guns and tell them both where to go
Just where does Allerdyce get off? What he has to take into consideration is the amount of support Barton has received from City over his relatively short career. Why should City have to pay someone £300,000 loyalty bonus when all he has done is bring shame on our club?
Sure, he has been our best player this season, but I seriously think Barton is better off at a team that revels in having players who like a good scrap with their own team-mates!!
If you going to quote Sam Allardyce quote it in context. The whole unedited comment made by Allardyce is as follows:
“They are out of order. This is a private matter, a confidential issue that should not have been made public. I’m flabbergasted and want the situation resolved.
“I am just trying as Newcastle manager to secure a player of this kind and quality and the deal has been held up.
“I cannot understand it because City didn’t pay anything for this player as he came through the youth system and are selling him for over £5million.
“It’s not really for me to comment. All I know is that this is a matter for Joey to sort out and I hope it is resolved as it has stopped him putting pen to paper.”
As you can see all that Allardyce is saying is that it is between Man Cty and Barton but contractually City have no leg to stand on.
Whether morally you agree with Barton getting this payment, which by the way i don’t contractually he is totally entitled to it. It is down to whichever idiot at Man City decided to offer one of their best young players a contract saying that he could leave without asking as long as someone bid £5.5million, and that he would get £300,000 in on the bargain. Barton has not done a thing wrong contractually to break his side of the bargain.
City made it clear they were looking to sell him, Barton didnt say a word, Newcastle bid the amount to trigger the clause, and legally is entitled to get the loyalty payment.
bosck to say you are blinded is an understatement barton is lowlife his football ability is not in question unfortunately his mental state is big sam is just getting worried he may lose his man this may be the best bet as it is fifty fifty that barton could get sent down doesnt say much for you when the majority of his team mates want to give evidence against him hope he shares a cell with his brother
