Rooney Threatens To Split Ronaldo In Two. Lesson Learnt?

When will Wayne Rooney ever learn? A couple of days after being sent off and contributing to his country’s dismal exit from the 2006 World Cup, everyone’s favourite lovable rogue Scouser has threatened to take all action necessary to exact his revenge upon his clubmate Cristiano Ronaldo for his part in his sending off.

A fantastic gesture of level headedness from the Roonster which completely fails to take into account the referee’s explanation that is was the stamp on Ricardo Carvalho’s crown jewels that earned him the red card and not the protestations from young Ronaldo at all. Never let the truth get in the way of a good punch up though and with Rooney on the rampage I’m sure Ronaldo is definitely considering that Real Madrid offer this morning.

As good a player as Ronaldo is I doubt that Sir Alex Ferguson will take his side over Rooney’s if a training ground brawl breaks out so it may well be out of Ronaldo’s hands whether he stays or goes. Ferguson won’t accept any troublemakers in the ranks as David Beckham, Jaap Stam and countless others have found out in the past and reputations count for little when it comes to the red faced Scotsman’s final decision.

One thing I can’t agree with is the comments by soon to be England coaching staff member Alan Shearer telling Wayne Rooney to stick one on Cristiano Ronaldo. Shearer’s playing nickname of Mary Poppins was always in complete opposition to his elbow flailing, sneaky, vindictive playing style and it’s unnecessary to see a BBC pundit offering such sage “advice” to an already short tempered troublemaker like Rooney.

Another breakdown in football values it seems.

Hmmmm – Whilst Rooney can hardly be exempt from blame, it looked fairly obvious that the ref wasn’t going to give a card until Ronaldo et al badgered him into it. To be fair we’ve had plenty of imaginary card waving from the england players so we’re hardly blameless in this respect.

More interesting is that Ronaldo had apparantly agreed to sign for Real Madrid dependant on Juan Miguel Villar Mir winning the presedential race (although this now looks unlikely as initial reports have him coming third), was this his way of preempting a move.
It looks like he’ll have to return to Man Utd for pre season and with Nistelroy already being moved on to placate Ronaldo how long can Ferguson put up with this self centered petulant behaviour.
It’ll be interesting to see the fans and players reaction next season (if he actually plays for Man Utd next season)

I found the ref’s explanation a little surprising too for the point you made above. He seemed to have no intention of speaking to Rooney until Ronaldo et al crowded around and kicked up a fuss and then suddenly he was reaching for the red card. I can understand how Rooney would blame Ronaldo for having some part in his dismissal because of this.

The Van Nistelrooy point is another interesting one. Ruud was obviously judged less important to United than Ronaldo but as I said above, do you think Rooney is? I doubt it, Sir Alex knows that to choose Ronaldo over Rooney would be footballing suicide and I can’t ever see that happening.

Alan, I’ve posted on the event. Apparently they’ve made up.

Dammit, I was hoping that this one would run and run for a while.

I find it very hard to believe that The Sun may have just made this new “feud” up out of nowhere though ;-)

  5. I hope Rooney will split in to.I really hate Ronaldo and think he should.

  6. I said that wrong
Rooney WILL split his head in 2!

  7. Ron says:

Rooney will always be Rooney.. :)
