Soccer Lens has reported that members of the South African government are putting serious thought into legalizing prostitution for the 2010 World Cup. The world event will bring millions of visitors to the country and it seems that what they want is sex and alcohol. Legalizing prostitution isn’t a new idea. Germany temporarily legalized prostitution during their 2006 World Cup Games. Critics of the idea say that their country isn’t ready for such an undertaking because much needs to be done to make it safe for the everyone.

I am all for using the World Cup to increase a countrues economic base, but how does prostitution do that. They ( prostitutes) are normally paid cash, so there are no taxes, and they are not bringing other business to the economy… Bad idea!
Well the theory is to control the prostitution. Like having safe brothels or something more organized.
The problem is that you can never stop prostitution, so why not try to control it?
Whenever people talk about legalizing prostitution, the theory is usually to legalize pimping (brothels, agencies, etc.), which is mainly the realm of men making money off working women, and keep it illegal for independent women to control their own prostitution experience (like keeping all of the money they make instead of forking over half or more to their boss). If anybody here is interested in a working girl’s blog you can check out mine.
It could be a good idea to control prostitution and make brothels safe for the visiters. But how will this legalization of prostitution, contribute to the economy of the country? What happens after the world cup?
I strongly criticise this prostitution thing, bcz it won’t make a change in the economy of SA.therefore whats the use of legalizing something that paint us [AFRICANS] with bad name,NO TO PROSTITUTION NO.
for economic purposes, prostitution can be legalized, but we need to think about HIV & AIDS, one can say even Germany they have legalized it during world cup, but the situation is not the same because HIV & AIDS is rife here in South Africa compare to other contries such as Germany. in my conclusion i totally disagree with the idea proposed by Jackie Selebi
I gree with Mosweu Moeletsi legalising prostitution for 2010 is a bad idea. What is going to happen after 2010. Are prostitutes going to be stopped working after the country has bennefited from them.
