In France’s Ligue 1 the defending Bordeaux F.C. champions fought to retake the lead in their division. It was a special game for the Bordeaux Girondins after defeating Les Mans 3-0 to retake the one point lead over Monaco. Also in the league Lyon lost to Nice 4-1.

The Girondins (Bordeaux) of France’s Ligue 1 have moved up in their standings after celebrating their 14th game winning streak against Nice rivals. The game ended 4-0 with star player Yoann Gourcuff scoring two of the goals.

Bordeaux won the last 11 games of last season taking over the leagues title winners Olympic Lyonnaise who had dominated the French league during the last decade. The Bordeaux Girondins were in Montreal to play the En avant Guingamp Club for the Champions Trophy on Saturday, July 25. I guess they decided that since they were there anyways they’d play the Montreal Impact.
The two teams faced off yesterday at the Saputo Stadium and resulted in a not surprising Bordeaux 2-1 victory. The friendly match is a good sign that the Impact are serious about joining the MLS.
