David Beckham has reported that he would play in the 2014 World Cup if he’s still able to. Beckham, who would be 40 years old in 2014 might be a little too old. Though if he were still in shape and able to why not?
Despite being one of the world’s most recognized soccer players, Beckham has yet been able to grasp a World Cup title for his country. Despite these shortcomings Beckham has been able to use his celebrity status to get England into a 2018 World Cup bid. At 44, he would definitely be too old to play.

Brazil certainly earned this win, though it was disappointing for US fans who looked forward to their first FIFA win ever. Instead they will just need to be satisfied with the fact that this was the first time ever the United States played in a FIFA final, a title long overdue.

Their last game against Santos even ended in a disappointing 4-1 loss. Disappointing is an understatement, fans were outright mad. This despite the fact that their head coach is Carlos Alberto Parreira former coach of Team Brazil.

Local media blamed the loss on the players who were said to have been caught enjoying Brazil’s crazy night life instead of focusing on the game. During a practice yesterday fans protested on the side-lines of a practice. Midfielder Diguinho got into a verbal fight with one of the fans and was punched in the stomach. Ouch, security jumped into the action but the fighting ended after a few warning shots were fired in the air. No one else was injured.

Not saying that Ecuador is a bad team, just that Brazil is well… Brazil! Well it just goes to show that anything could happen. Does this mean that Canada has a chance for a World Cup 2010 standing?

Ecuador’s Cristian Nobosa forced a 1-1 tie with Brazil after scoring in the 89th min. Fans roared in the Quito, Ecuador stadium where the two teams met on Sunday, March 29.

Not to make excuses for Brazil but they were playing in unfavourable conditions. I suppose because of scheduling, team Brazil only arrived in Ecuador mere hours before the game on Sunday. Not nearly enough time to acclimate to the high altitude of 2,740 metres above sea level. Normally a team needs to be there a week before to help their bodies adjust to the thinner air and oxygen levels. In the past FIFA officials have banned games from taking place in stadiums whose altitudes exceed 2,500 metres but that had to be raised to 3,000 after several South American Countries complained.

Personally, the conditions of playing soccer above 2,500 metres is hazardous to a players health. That rule should have allowed players to acclimate in pressure chambers in the days preceding high altitude games, a practice that is currently outlawed.
