The Spanish club showed that they are at least €327 million in debt ($443 million US) after going on a spending spree with new star players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol.

The four star players have a newly combined salary of €217 million ($324 million US), making up a huge portion of the debt.

The spending spree came just after Florentino Perez became the new president of Real Madrid. Like a true businessman Perez defended the spending on the grounds that you have to spend money to make money, and he believes that his new team can make more money now than ever. Well good luck with that Real Madrid. Though wouldn’t it be embarrassing if they didn’t win any championships? Sometimes putting together a ‘dream team’ is counter productive as they all try to hog the spotlight rather than work as a team.

Cristiano Ronaldo received a warm welcome to a crowd of over 75,000 fans in Madrid, Spain – July 6th, 2009. Ronaldo was traded from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a deal worth €13 million per season. It was speculated that he had been wanting to be traded for a long time now. I guess he just wanted to be somewhere that had better weather.

The crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium cheered when he received his #9 jersey from club president Florentino Pérez.

Despite having some of the best players in the business Real Madrid has replaced their head coach with Manuel Pellegrini. New president Florentino Perez, took charge of Real Madrid and his first line of business was to replace the coach.
This is the first time in three years Real Madrid has gone a season without winning anything. This was both disappointing for fans, the players and coaching staff. The replacement was applauded during a journalists press conference.
Well let’s just hope that this new shake-up does something to help the team. Nothing would be worse than shaking things up only to [...]
Post from: The Footie
