English Football association (FA) head Ian Watmore, has stated that he believes the UEFA should leave players salaries free to the open market. This comes just days after the UEFA has expressed their concern that European soccer players are being paid too much and that there needs to be a cap on a clubs spending.
The UEFA believes that the salary cap will help lesser financially able clubs stay competitive against other clubs who can afford to pay for the big players. The decision to enforce the salary restrictions are still in the process of being debated but it has …read more

It almost seemed as if Real Madrid were human when they failed to plant any goals into DC United’s net during the first half of the match last night. DC goal tender Josh Wicks made some amazing saves that stunned both fans and Real Madrid strikers alike.
72,368 fans made it to the FedEx Fields in Washington DC Sunday night to catch a glimpse at Real Madrid’s MLS tour. They played Toronto FC which ended in a 5-1 attack. Is it called soccer or is it called football. Well I guess that depends on where you are from.
I have been getting slack from a few TheFootie readers who dislike the fact that I continue to use the word soccer. While the rest of the world say football, us fans of the game are forced to say soccer because the word football is already taken.

Carlos Tevez is one of the star forwards playing for Manchester United. His record and standings are impeccable but it seems that the club aren’t meeting his needs.
He just refused signing a new five year contract with Man. United stating that he would be better appreciated elsewhere. Where does elsewhere mean, well has expressed a desire to remain in England and play for either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Toronto FC to host AC Milan

It’s a rare event to see a big soccer club like AC Milan in North American but it was confirmed today that they will be in Toronto August 7th, 2009. They will be taking on the Toronto FC, Canada’s Premiere soccer club and member of the MLS.
They will be playing at the humble BMO fields located in Toronto. A small stadium compared to the giant one’s they are used to playing at in Milan. It will definitely be a different kind of atmosphere than what AC Milan are used to.

In a surprising bit of news mega soccer star Kaka has decided to leave AC Milan to head for Real Madrid. His new contract is reported to be worth over $100 million.

No Economic Troubles For FIFA

The world-wide FIFA organization has reported record gains in earnings this year, despite economic troubles. Soccer seems to be the only sport not affected by the recent economic depression (Maybe if it was more popular in the United States and Canada things might look a little brighter).
FIFA revealed today that they have earned over $957 million in revenues. After all of the bills were paid $184 million turned out to be pure profits. Executives believe that the earnings show that the world still love soccer and are willing to support their national teams.

LA Galaxy fans should be happy to know that David Beckham is on his way back home to Los Angeles to finish the MLS season. He has been on loan to AC Milan where he had hoped to stay.

The United States may care more about American Football than they do soccer, but according to recent finds by FIFA the U.S.A. leads in ticket sales for the worlds biggest sporting event.
It is highly unlikely that team USA will make it past the World Cup qualifying round, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping people from buying tickets anyways. Despite setbacks in the economy 93,300 tickets have been sold to U.S. residents. That is compared to the 450,000 who are expected to flock to South Africa from all over the world. Ronaldinho may not return to AC Milan next season. After playing with the Corinthians in the Brazilian Football League manager and brother Roberto de Assis said that he is unsatisfied with his demotion in the AC Milan lineup.
