Seattle Sounders Eliminates F.C. Dallas

The Seattle Sounders shut down any hopes for the F.C. Dallas winning the Major League Soccer Cup this year by eliminating them from the playoffs. Saturday night’s game at the Qwest Fields in Seattle was a saddening loss for Dallas when they let in two goals, ending the game 2-1.
The lone point was enough to crush Dallas dreams for a cup this season but hey did they really think they could best the Seattle Sounders? The team was introduced this 2009 season and was marked as the team to beat after they acquired Steve Zakuani (who was the MLS first …read more

Toronto FC Has Gone From Bad To Worse

The Toronto FC soccer club has gone from bad to worse for midfielder Carl Robinson. Toronto FC are three points behind a spot that would give them a chance to play towards the MLS Cup this year and they have no hope of making it. To make matters worse Robinson collided with a team member during practice injuring his face.
The injury was so severe that he was advised to get reconstructive surgery from his physician. The surgery will keep him off of the pitch for at least 6 weeks. That’s more than enough time to miss out on the …read more

Is Beckham Still a Hope For MLS?

Jeff Baker at New University wrote an interesting article today about David Beckham and his contributions (or lack thereof) to the development of soccer in North America. It’s true that this is a tough market to crack. We seem to love technical games like football and baseball or fighting games like boxing, ultimate fighting, wrestling and hockey. If you put those two together soccer represents a game we wouldn’t enjoy. Low scoring easy to understand games with players acting like pansy’s in the field.
Jeff Baker argued that Beckham was acquired by the LA Galaxy as a promotional tool …read more

Toronto FC Keeps Hope Alive For MLS Cup

It was cause for some big celebrations yesterday when Toronto FC defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-2. The game earned Toronto enough points to keep their hopes for the Major League Soccer Cup dreams alive. For the last three seasons the Toronto FC have played in the MLS they have never made it to the playoff rounds.
Dwayne De Rosario made the first goal of the game in the 19th minute giving Toronto the first lead. After two more points followed Toronto coach Chris Cummins jumped for joy and told reporters that he believes that the team now has the confidence to …read more

Beckham Interested in Montreal Impact

Beckham Interested in Montreal Impact

If you read this blog often you’ll notice that I am of course a soccer fan but that I love the Montreal Impact and the Bordeaux Girondins. So when I heard the news that David Beckham was interested in being part owner of the Montreal Impact and helping them find their way into the MLS I nearly hit the roof.
David Beckham has it in his contract that he could purchase a MLS team in 2012. That’s not saying that he’ll be playing for the Impact but that his expertise in the game could help them in the league.
Montreal, …read more

Seattle Sounders Win U.S. Open Cup

It’s been an eventful year for the Seattle Sounders who are the newest team added to the MLS this season. They came on strong early on and made a name for themselves. Being sponsored by XBOX help increase their popularity as well. But now they can add U.S. Open Cup winners to their rap sheet.
Freddy Montero and Roger Levesque scored on the D.C. United giving them an encouraging 2-0 lead. The United’s fought their way back but it was too late and was only able to put one goal in at the 89th minute mark by Clyde Simms.
The Seattle …read more

Real Madrid’s Washington DC 3-0 Shutout

It almost seemed as if Real Madrid were human when they failed to plant any goals into DC United’s net during the first half of the match last night. DC goal tender Josh Wicks made some amazing saves that stunned both fans and Real Madrid strikers alike.
72,368 fans made it to the FedEx Fields in Washington DC Sunday night to catch a glimpse at Real Madrid’s MLS tour. They played Toronto FC which ended in a 5-1 attack. After realizing what the typical MLS teams were up against it wasn’t surprising that they won last nights game with Washington. …read more

Whitecaps lose 1-0 to Timbers

The Vancouver Whitecaps folded 1-0 to the Portland Timbers in last night’s game. The Whitecaps FC were scored on at the 30 minute mark by Portland’s Ryan Pore after receiving a great pass from Keita.
Vancouver slipped to 6 place in the United Soccer League 1 standings as a result of their loss. Their 7-8-4 record isn’t impressing the Major League Soccer Association who have decided to add the Whitecaps to the MLS in 2011.
It was assumed that Vancouver was awarded access to the MLS because of their world status and the fact that they will host the Winter Olympic Games.
