Their hopes of being added to the MLS have been renewed after MLS commissioner Don Garber extended his desire to have Montreal added as the 18th team to the league. The hopes are that they will be able to expand to a well rounded 20 team. The $40 million Montreal refused to pay has since been reduced to a more reasonable $35 million. There are also rumors that David Beckham has expressed interest in being a part owner of the Montreal Impact. His contract with the MLS includes a clause that allows him to collect investments.

Montreal, who are currently apart of the USL have been trying to become a MLS fanchise but lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps for the 2011 season. Montreal Impact’s managers were also weary of the $40 million franchise fee they were being asked to pay if selected. That price has since been dropped to $35 million as it was seen as being biasly unfair.

It may have been raining hard in Montreal yesterday but attendance was high to near capacity at the Saputo Stadium. A large River Plate crowd was there for support as well. RP’s Christian Fabbiano managed to slip one buy in the 21st minute. But it was Montreal’s rebound in the 64 minute by Roberto Brown that got the local fans going.

Despite being a friendly game, the pre-emotive decision was to go into a shootout. So RP decided the game in over-time with two scores going in with Montreal’s zero. Despite the loss and the rain, it was a great game that everyone seemed to enjoy. Montreal will be hosting the Minnesota Thunder on August 9th.

I know I go there every time I write about the Montreal Impact so why break tradition. I think Montreal deserves to be apart of the MLS. They were the only Canadian team able to stave off the River Plate in any form. The Toronto FC folded almost completely in an embarassing loss.

The Toronto FC are naturally excited by their recent streak of wins and hope that they will continue to be strong in the MLS. Montreal on the other hand continued to disappoint fans by tying their following game against Charleston on May 12. The club then decided that they had had enough with their head coach, so he was sacked on May 14. Lets hope the shake-up works.

For Canada however the two teams have been matched again for the Nutrilite Canadian Championship games.
Last year Toronto FC won with Montreal Impact in second and the Vancouver Whitecaps trailing in third. Having beaten Montreal for the 2012 MLS bid they have allot to prove. Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto are the only three teams to compete in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.

With government spending being spent frivolously for Vancouver’s Winter Olympics, there’s no surprise that they won the 2011 MLS bid.
With government spending being spent frivolously for Vancouver’s Winter Olympics, there’s no surprise that they won the 2011 MLS bid. The Vancouver Whitecaps will be the second Canadian team to join the Major League Soccer association. Understandably, the Montreal Impact are a little jealous and want a fair chance for a future MLS bid.

The problem is that the economy is not doing so good and $25 million is allot of paper to be spending on an obscure team. The Impact, on the other hand are a really good team. They have proven in past friendly games, that they can hold their own against any MLS team. Hopefully in the future they’ll be able to show their skill.
