2010 World Cup Animal Sacrifice?

There is a news circulating that South Africa plans on kicking off the 2010 World Cup games by ’sacrificing’ a cow (check out the article at Yahoo.com). This of course is upsetting some people as they seem to care if a cow get’s killed. South Africa is defending their decision by stating that the ceremony needs to be blessed ‘African Style’ for the games to run smoothly.
I personally don’t see what the big deal is about sacrificing a cow for the South African World Cup. No one seems to care about the cow that died to end up in …read more

It was decided in today’s game that Germany and Italy will be joining the ranks of other countries who have made it into the World Cup qualifying matches. Denmark as well as Serbia can be proud to also have the chance to play in the World Cup after beating out France. So far, the countries that still remain undecided are Switzerland and Slovakia, whose fate will be decided this Wednesday.

The United States should also celebrate as they too have made it in the 2010 World Cup. So far the list of team who will definitely be playing in the 2010 …read more

FIFA’s New Bone Age Test Debutes In Nigeria

Doping and fair play in general has always been a top priority for FIFA officials. So when rumors surfaced that Nigeria was playing over aged teens in the U-17 World Cup games they had to do something.
FIFA has announced that they will randomly test players from the 24 competing U-17 nations with a new bone magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner that will determine the age of the players. The test in non-invasive and causes no harm to the players. The integrity of the sport however is what is at stake. It’s not uncommon for teams to recruit players who …read more

Canada Ranks 66 For FIFA World Cup

It’s not looking too good for Canada in their attempt at playing in the 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup games. Their ranking has been tallied by the FIFA governing body as being in 66th place. This is not at all surprising considering we are a hockey country and only have two MLS teams.
Soccer critics have blamed the Canadian Soccer Association for not giving their best players more support in the game. But I guess that’s what happens when there is no money from sponsors for the game.
The United States on the other hand has almost been able to …read more

N. Korea Qualifies For 2010 World Cup

Stranger things have happened I suppose. This week North Korea tied Saudi Arabia and qualified for the 2010 World Cup games in South Africa.

After a well played defensive game, North Korea tied it 0-0 with the middle east country. North Korea are the fourth Asian League team to qualify for the 2010 World Cup as they will be joining Australia, Japan and South Korea. This is the first time since 1966 that they qualified for the world’s largest sporting event.

FIFA & IOC Consider Change in Soccer Rules

The worldwide FIFA organization are petitioning the International Olympic Committee to help devise new rules regarding soccer in the Olympic games. One of the rules they are hoping to change is the baring of any player over 21 years old.
This they hope will help encourage young talent by giving them a platform from which to shine. Other rules being brought up is the baring of players who have played in the World Cup games. This they say is unfair for other teams who can’t possibly compete against these teams.
Personally I think they should implement both of these rules. It is …read more

England Massacres Kazakhstan Soccer Team

England is proving that they want the World Cup bad. They defeated Kazakhstan yesterday 4-0 in Almaty, the capitol city of Kazakhstan.
England has now gone 6 games in the World Cup Qualifiers, winning all of them. Going undefeated is a good start for a team set on winning the cup one more time for England.
England has only won the World Cup once in 1966 when they hosted the event.

U.S.A. Lead World Cup Ticket Sales

The United States may care more about American Football than they do soccer, but according to recent finds by FIFA the U.S.A. leads in ticket sales for the worlds biggest sporting event.
It is highly unlikely that team USA will make it past the World Cup qualifying round, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping people from buying tickets anyways. Despite setbacks in the economy 93,300 tickets have been sold to U.S. residents. That is compared to the 450,000 who are expected to flock to South Africa from all over the world. Special rates have been fixed for local residents who …read more

Donovan & Hamm Join USA 2018 Bid Team

Two of the biggest USA soccer stars have been asked to help a United States bid for the 2018 or 2020 World Cup. Mia Hamm and Landon Donovan have been asked and have agreed to help the National Bid Committee in their ensuing efforts.
Being able to host the FIFA World Cup games is one of the best economic boosts a country could have. Millions of tourism dollars flow into the host country and right now none want it harder than the USA. President Barack Obama wrote a letter of endorsement to the FIFA Committee of his approval. Other countries however …read more
