Christiano Ronaldo and Marta Vieira da Silva were honoured by the FIFA organization in Zurich as the players of the year. Ronaldo won for the men’s for his amazing 42 goals scored last season alone. Marta won for the women for her great performance on team Brazil, leading her team to the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Golden Ball

Cristiano Ronaldo took home the coveted European Footballer of the Year Golden Ball Award in Paris, France yesterday. The Awards is given to the player who accumulates the most points from fans. That makes Ronaldo only the fourth player for Manchester United to win such the title. According to French reporters Ronaldo was extremely grateful for winning the award calling it the "greatest day of his life."

Ronaldo beat out nominees Messi and Torres. According to some blogs people have been upset with the win claiming that Ronaldo doesn’t play fair and takes allot of dives when things don’t go his way.

Canadian Christine Sincliar made the nomination list for the FIFA Women’s World Player for 2008. From Burnaby, BC. Sinclair lead her country to the Woman’s World Cup. In total she has achieved 95 goals in just 125 appearances for Canada.

Germany’s Women Soccer Team Given National Awards

President Köhler with coach Silvia Neid, who received the Distinguished Silver Cross"German President Horst Köhler presented the German women’s soccer team with the Silver Laurel Leaf — the country’s highest honour for sporting achievements — on Wednesday, Dec. 5."

Germany’s national coach Silvia Neid was presented the Distinguished Service Cross, noting her many contributions to world soccer.
