2010 World Cup Animal Sacrifice?

There is a news circulating that South Africa plans on kicking off the 2010 World Cup games by ’sacrificing’ a cow (check out the article at Yahoo.com). This of course is upsetting some people as they seem to care if a cow get’s killed. South Africa is defending their decision by stating that the ceremony needs to be blessed ‘African Style’ for the games to run smoothly.
I personally don’t see what the big deal is about sacrificing a cow for the South African World Cup. No one seems to care about the cow that died to end up in …read more

It seems that ever since FIFA decided that the 2010 World Cup was to be held in South Africa, they have worried about every possible problem. They have had to prepare a back-up plans for everything, from stadium construction to hotel accommodation and now even electrical consumption.
Electricity company Eskom of South Africa has promised that they will be able to provide enough electricity to the host cities. The World Cup attracts allot of people and they will undoubtedly see a surge in power consumption. FIFA’s New Bone Age Test Debutes In Nigeria

Doping and fair play in general has always been a top priority for FIFA officials. So when rumors surfaced that Nigeria was playing over aged teens in the U-17 World Cup games they had to do something.
FIFA has announced that they will randomly test players from the 24 competing U-17 nations with a new bone magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner that will determine the age of the players. The test in non-invasive and causes no harm to the players. The integrity of the sport however is what is at stake. It’s not uncommon for teams to recruit players who …read more

Canada Ranks 66 For FIFA World Cup

It’s not looking too good for Canada in their attempt at playing in the 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup games. Their ranking has been tallied by the FIFA governing body as being in 66th place. This is not at all surprising considering we are a hockey country and only have two MLS teams.
Soccer critics have blamed the Canadian Soccer Association for not giving their best players more support in the game. But I guess that’s what happens when there is no money from sponsors for the game.
The United States on the other hand has almost been able to …read more

FIFA Rules Flawed?

Are the official FIFA World Cup rules flawed? A mathematician from Victoria, Canada seems to believe so. The professor believes that he has found a potential problem in the way the rules are laid for international soccer. He wants FIFA to acknowledge the problem an amend the rules accordingly.
Aaron Williams believes that two different teams could make an argument for a second-place when a theoretical three-way tie occurs.
“In a particular round-robin situation, three teams could argue they finished in the top-two spots based on the rules as they’re written.”
Not to be a downer but who cares about the second …read more

Zidane To Sit Out Vancouver Game

Zidane was set to play a charity tribute game in Vancouver Saturday, though it seems he will have to sit this one out. He suffered a back injury after picking up his kid as they watched the fireworks display on Canada Day in Vancouver.

Fans from all over the Vancouver area have tickets to see the French living soccer legend, though without Zidane the game must go on.
Zidane was instrumental in bringing France to win the 1998 World Cup and 2000 Euro Cup. He retired after leading France to the 2006 World Cup finals after being sent off by refs …read more

FIFA President Offers Advice For MLS

FIFA President Offers Advice For MLS

FIFA President Sepp Blatter had a few words of advice for the MLS this week. He complained that other professional players will now follow David Beckham into the MLS because of the timing of its seasons.
Beckham who knew that he wanted to be in top shape to play for England in the World Cup, had to skip over to AC Milan. This is because there were too many months of inactivity before the World Cup Qualifying matches. The regular European season for soccer begins in August and ends in May. The MLS on the other hand starts in March …read more
