Cristiano Ronaldo Heads For The Hills

Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t too well known in the United States but that didn’t stop him from flaunting his wealth in Hollywood, California yesterday. Ronaldo and friends headed to Los Angeles once his season with Manchester United ended and his short vacation time begun.

They were spotted by the paparazzi pulling up in their streatched Hummer-Limo and entering into the Italian restaurant Madeo located in Beverly Hills. I’m sure a few people dining at Madeo recognized the soccer star. Not exactly sure why Cristiano Ronaldo is in California, maybe he’s there to watch a game or two of the LA Galaxy?

Ashley Cole of Chelsea was thrown into the tank (jail) for three hours Wednesday morning after swearing at police outside of a west London nightclub. Cole was obviously intoxicated and police said that his display of public drunkenness warranted a sobering up in the slammer and a fine of 80 pounds.
Cole (28yrs) is said to make 80,000 pounds a week with Chelsea so I don’t think he will be hurting financially over this incident. The real damage is his reputation in the club.

Manchester United wants to keep Portuguese star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, so what have they done? The Premier League club is rumored to have offered him £200,000 (roughly $279,000) a week!
In a year, Ronaldo would make about $14.5 million and according to reports, the new contract would keep him there until 2014. If he were to accept such an offer he would then become the highest paid player in the Premier League.
He still has three years left with his current contract but FIFA rules would allow him to buy himself out of his contract at the end of next season.

Russian soccer player Andrei Arshavin finally got his wish buy getting transferred from Zenith St. Petersburg to Arsenal. No word yet on the final figures for the deal but what is known is that it will be a 3 1/2 year contract with the English Premier League club.
It is hoped that the young (26 year old) Arshavin will help offset the growing injury list with the Arsenals. So far Cesc Fabregas, Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott are on the long term injury recovering list.
He’s played 232 games for Zenit, scored 51 goals and in 2006 he was the Russian Footballer of the Year.

It seems that everything has been going wrong for Robinho these past few weeks. He said that he had a family emergency and had to leave the Manchester City club without permission suddenly. He returned Sunday and will be facing fines by the coach.
Robinho is also the center of an sexual assault allegation made ay a 18 year old female from Leeds, England. The allegation claims that Robinho assaulted her on January 14 outside of a nightclub. Robinho of course denies the claims and has already met with the police. He is currently out on bail.

Messi Needs Attention Too Kaka

In a strange turn of deal makings and trading events, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has told press that he, like Kaka, would not be traded for any amount.
Not the smartest thing to say. Only because now that he admitted it openly, general managers will know that they can offer him less to stay. Seem like Messi just wanted to join in on some of the Kaka team loyalty showboating. I hope that all this tear-felt team loyalty crap goes around so that players eventually get paid less. Thus putting more of that money into giving back to the real fans of the teams – communities.

Beckham Playing for AC Milan During Winter

Los Angeles Galaxy star player, David Beckham, might sign a contract with AC Milan to play in the winter, starting January, during the MLS offseason. Therefore, he’d be able to keep his contract with the Galaxy and be able to stay fit during the league’s time off.
Simon Oliveira a spokesperson for Becks, eliminated any rumors of the player being traded. “He very much remains a Galaxy player, and he would be in Los Angeles for the start of the 2009 MLS season.”
AC’s vice president continues the discussion by saying, “We’ll sign him for a few months, and then he’ll go back. Beckham will bring more fans.”
If I were an AC Milan fan, I’d be ecstatic and I’m sure Beckham’s arrival will be heavily welcomed by most. I just hope he doesn’t get injured while playing for them. That’d be quite a bad turn for the Galaxy.

Liverpool’s Torres Out for Two Weeks
October 17, 2008 by Jyle Dupuis

Liverpool player, Fernando Torres, will be out for approximately 10-15 days due to an injury to his right hamstring that he sustained in a match with Belgium yesterday. Unfortunately, he’ll be missing battles against Wigan, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea over the next two weeks.
Manager Rafael Benitez said: “I am very disappointed about this, because it now looks like we will lose Fernando for three very important games. We have Wigan at home and Chelsea away in the league and Atletico Madrid away in the Champions League, so to lose any players is a big blow.”
Also, Liverpool is doubtful that player Ryan Babel will be able to play against Wigan due to a sprain in his left leg. Sheesh. That’s really unlucky for Liverpool. I’m sure they can pull through regardless of their injured players.

Middlesbrough striker, Tuncay Sanli is out for six weeks due to a knee injury. He has medial ligament damage in his knee, and with expectedly tough matches against clubs like Chelsea, hearing the news was a blow to Middlesbrough.
Boss of the team, Gareth Southgate, says, “It’s a shame for Tuncay. However, we’ve got strength in depth in that area now and it gives opportunities to the other lads.”
Geez. We’ll see how that plays out. Although, as Southgate said, sometimes injuries just allow others to shine and takeover.
