Montreal Impact Upset Over Losing Streak

It was a sad day this week for Montreal Impact fans to learn that they lost against the Toronto FC in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. There was only one goal scored during the entire game, unfortunately it was in favour of Toronto.

Toronto also defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 6 (also in a 1-0 game) during the opening Nutrilite Canadian Championships. The Toronto FC are naturally excited by their recent streak of wins and hope that they will continue to be strong in the MLS. Montreal on the other hand continued to disappoint fans by tying their following game against Charleston on May 12. The club then decided that they had had enough with their head coach, so he was sacked on May 14. Lets hope the shake-up works.

Jose Moyrinho, Manager of Inter Milan Accused of Assaulting Fan

Jose Mourinho who is the manager of Inter Milan in under investigation over an alleged minor assault of a fan. The incident was supposed to have taken place as Mourinho was leaving the stadium and entering into the tour bus.

The complainant whose identity is still unknown to reporters has been confirmed to be a 46 year old fan of the opposing team. Mourinho denies the allegations.

Inter Milan lost the game that night and was subsequently eliminated from the Champions League by a goal made by Manchester United’s Ronaldo.

Training in Dubai Takes Soccer Expenses To a Whole New High

With Paris receiving record amounts of snow this weekend and North America in a deep freeze, some might wonder if the third Ice Age is coming. Though it’s cold, that hasn’t stopped players from getting out for their pre-season trainings in Dubai. Well why not. It only makes sense to train there if its cold back home, right? No doubt they are spending their fortunes on hotel bills and other training expenses. Makes you wonder. What’s so wrong with just training indoors? Looks to me like they have a little too much spending cash for my preference. Maybe it’s time they started cutting out the unnecessaries and donated a few to their favourite charities.

Liverpool Set To Match Everton in FA Cup Round

Liverpool makes it into the fourth round of the FA Cup by defeating Preston 2-0 Saturday. English neighbours Everton also made it after bumping Macclesfield off the board 1-0. Manchester United is also set to face Tottenham.

Paul Stalteri Heading Back to Germany

Canada Team captain Paul Stalteri is heading back to Germany. Stalteri has now left Tottenham of the Premier League for Borussia Monchengladbach of Germany’s Bundesliga to begin the season starting January 1, 2009. The fullback was with the Werder Bremen of Germany back in 2005 and now he’s back there again.

I kinna wish that all of Canada’s best soccer players come back to North America to help build up the MLS, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Ronaldo Re-Joins Corinthians

After rumours of not being able to play again after his knee injury, Ronaldo is back with the Corinthians. The club is giving him a second chance after playing with AC Milan. Reports have emerged that Ronaldo has signed a $209,015/month contract with the San Palo team. Well, no matter how much or less he seems to be making, he’s reportedly happy to be back home playing in Brazil.

U.S. Wins U-20 World Cup!

The United States women Under 20 won the U-20 World Cup against North Korea. The two teams faced off in Santiago, Chile on Sunday. The main star for the U.S. team isn’t even American. Sydney Leroux, who made the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute was actually born in Vancouver, B.C. She attends UCLA when she was asked to be on the team. Go Canada!

Ronaldo Decides To Stay With Manchester

Cristiano Ronaldo told reporters that he has decided to stop wanting to play with Real Madrid and that he plans to have a long future with Manchester United. After being turned down by the Real Madrid trophies and awards started to flow in for the 23 year old striker. He won the Golden Ball Award just last weeks and a few others recently.

I know Ronaldo is a good player but the guy needs to learn some humility. At a salary like his and at only 23 years old mind you – he needs to be grateful for what he’s got.

Burnley Beats Arsenal 2-0 In Carling Cup Semi-Final

Burnley made history yesterday when they managed to pull off a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the 2008 Carling Cup Semi-Final’s in London. After managing to beat Chelsea, another tough team, Burnley have been this years Cinderella story.
