Riot police were called to help control soccer fans after a game at London’s Uptown Park. Before the West Ham/Millwall game began a man was stabbed after a small riot broke out between opposing fans. The man was rushed to the hospital after police and stadium security finally broke up the brawl. Camera crews show fans of both sides throwing bottles and bricks at the police. For fear or more riots after the game, police were dispatched to direct crowds directly to the subway by blocking off streets.

Rioting in London by soccer fans isn’t a new thing. The worst recent soccer violence occurred in Manchester last season after a technician was unable to connect a giant TV screen of the game. English fans were also responsible for the 1985 European Cup riot in Brussels that left 35 people dead. The tragedy subsequently banned English teams from competing in the European League for five years. After that British police are always on guard during a soccer match for fear of international rebuke.
