ATM1088 Free PC

The ATM1088(L) PC or iT is a compact, ultra-simple, portable desktop computer by Asiatotal.net , complete with everything necessary to connect to the Internet, home entertainment devices, printer , USB card reader and digital camera. It was launched on 26 October, 2005 and its purpose was for it to be distributed among eligible low-income individuals and small businesses to enrich their lives, and to close the digital divide in the world at large. It’s also supposed to be virus-free but since its using Microsoft Windows CE, I don’t think its possible.

Now isn’t that humanly nice of them and it’s not even Christmas yet. Now we’re waiting for Google and Yahoo to launch their free PCs. Free Wifi is just not enough as you need something to surf on too.

The iT package includes keyboard, mouse, a 7-inch LCD monitor with speaker, smart card reader, mouse pad and all necessary cables. Adding to the product’s user-friendliness, is the smart card reader that allows the user to connect quickly and securely with any required service, for instance, their bank to make transactions. It has easy voice text and messages via windows messenger. It uses disc on module instead of hard drive, which is claimed to be more stable than a standard PC. It is also supposedly immune to virus. The user can also connect iT to their TV monitor for larger text and images, to their sound system for superior sound, to their printer and to their USB card reader for reading the memory card of digital cameras, and many other USB peripherals.
