DecalGirl Wii Robo-B Skin Review

I have a white Nintendo Wii set (Jap version) and it looks pretty crappy now after a month of Wii Sports and Ratatouille. There’s a lot of smudge and fingerprint marks on the Wiiremote, nunchuck and even the console because its just plain white. Thank goodness, the people at DecalGirl dropped a Robo-B Wii Skin set (USD $22.99) on my doorstep last Monday (15 Oct 2007) via UPS to cover up the dirt.
I tore opened the UPS envelope and out came the Wii skin set. The skin was also in a white envelope which is pretty coincidental and the excellent looking Robo-B console skin comes with matching skins for the classic controller, nunchuck and wiiremote too.
Below : The back of the Skin’s envelope with install tips. Check the section on the right that labels each skin to a particular section on the Wii.
Below : matching skins for the nunchuck and wiiremote
At first sight, the Skin looks tough. When I slowly peel off the skin from the inlay, the texture felt tough enough to last a few years of use and did not warp much. And now its time to install the skin which took me about 1 hour since it was not that easy to get it right.
Installation
Firstly, I thoroughly clean my Wii with a cloth since there’s a lot of smudge and fingerprint marks on it. Its plain white and pretty scratchy after a months usage. I even took it to my friends house in my Everki laptop bag and it does not look new anymore.
There are installation tips online and on the skin’s envelope. So its pretty easily layout and a 5 year kid could do it.
Slowly peeling off the skin from the back, it looks very sticky and tough.
Phew ! Took me about 10 mins to get the below right. It would be better if you pasted the skin on without taking it fully out from the underlay in a rolling motion. If you took the whole skin out like the install tips say, you will find the skin bending around and it would be hard to adjust to the sides of the Wii.
What’s left of the first portion of the side skin. Generally this side of the skin fit well to the Wii.
I am going to install the front section of the skin. Too bad its going to cover the “Wii” words. They should have left a hole on that section.
Done. The front section is installed. Though the fit on the power and reset button was not too good, you can still press the buttons easily.

The nunchuck and its skin side by side. Time to stick this on. I wished the skin covered the whole piece as that would have been even nicer.
Sticking on the Wiiremote skin was the most challenging part. There were many holes in the skin and I had to take time to align it correctly or the HOME , PLUS (+) and MINUS (-) buttons would not fit in. Doing it in a rolling motion while pulling out the skin from the underlay would be the best option.
The Wiiremote with the skin. Looks good at the top but it won’t keep the bottom part clean.
The Wii with the Robo-B Skin installed. It looks pretty hot right now and will let me score some chicks (yeah right). Overall the skin makes the Wii prety cool. This is the front part of the Wii

The back portion of the Wii console. Too bad the skin does not cover it.
The Wii and the Robo-B Wii skin next to my Sony TV. Now I don’t have to worry about smudges, fingerprint marks and dust. Let’s hope I don’t have to pull the skin out for another 10 years. That would be nice. Thanks to DecalGirl for making my Wii the best looking console in Malaysia!!
