Easy Peasy: The Ubuntu Eee’s Controversial New Name

Via Plurk:

AdeMagnaye: So Ubuntu Eee was renamed Easy Peasy. I don’t get it either.

Me: WTF?!?!?!

AdeMagnaye: Also, the guy’s running a logo contest to make Easy Peasy sound professional. Seriously.

AdeMagnaye: I mean, making his OS sound professional could be easily done by, well, choosing another name.

LaTtEX: It runs along the tradition of Ubuntu OS naming right?

tonyocruz: [how entertaining!]

AdeMagnaye: nope, this is a totally different project. It’s a play on Asus’s “Easy PC”, which is a branding fail for me.

aescnt: ugh. shit. the design-by-committee mechanisms of the FOSS community strikes again.

AdeMagnaye: Ugly name, contest will produce ugly logo, and next thing we know the UI will be ugly as well.

aescnt: Also, “I know the name is silly but we’ll make a serious logo with it!” is quite a near-sighted decision
