Sony has really outdone themselves with the new light weight Sony G11. Somehow it really reminds me of those IBM T60 notebooks with similar curves and all this is happening in the UK now.

Today Sony announce the G11 notebook, a light, portable PC perfect for business travellers. The G11 contains the latest Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor and Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast network connections. It also has a remarkable battery life of 9 hours, long enough to keep you going through the typical working day.

Alongside the G11 Sony are launching upgrades to the AR30 and TX5. The VAIO AR30-Series is the latest version of the first notebook to showcase an integrated Blu-ray Disc™ optical drive. Created to be the ultimate Full HD entertainment notebook, the flagship VGN-AR31S offers users the ability to edit their personal HD video content and then burn it onto a Dual Layer 50GB Blu-ray drive as well as all the benefits of Blu-ray playback.

The VAIO TX5-Series ultra-portable is in a class of its own. The carbon fibre construction provides great strength and keeps the weight down to just 1.25kg, while the ultra-low voltage platform enables users to work for up to 7 hours.

The VAIO G11-Series is designed specifically for business travellers who need a no hassle notebook that can be used anytime, anywhere. Every aspect of its design is geared towards making it the perfect business tool that’s light, durable and above all reliable.

Weighing just 1.13kg including its battery, the VAIO G11-series notebook is extremely portable and hassle-free. The power supply itself is smaller than a pen and weighs a mere 170g. Carbon fibre laminate has been used for both the casing and lid, resulting in an unprecedented combination of strength and portability. Exhaustive drop and pressure testing resulted in a final design capable of withstanding a fall from up to 90cm1. In fact, with HDD technology, if the machine is dropped while powered on, the hard disk senses the acceleration and automatically locks down its drive heads in a fraction of a second to prevent damage and data loss.

The G11 contains the latest Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor, with its groundbreaking combination of performance and minimal power consumption, the G11 has a remarkable battery life of 9 hours – long enough to keep you going through the typical working day. The G11 also offers security features such as fingerprint recognition to replace the unsecure user passwords and Trusted™ Platform Module (TPM) hardware-level protection for files, passwords and encryption keys.

The 12.1-inch XGA resolution screen is designed for business, with a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than widescreen format. Therefore applications such as databases or ordering systems designed for the classic screen format are displayed properly, without distortion. The G11 also features Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast network connections, potentially saving time in the office and an integrated multi-format Dual Layer DVD±RW/RAM optical drive, sparing users the inconvenience of having to carry an external unit with them. As expected from a machine designed specifically for professionals, the VAIO G11-Series is supplied with Windows Vista™ Business as standard.
