Idealist: Android and Symbian to Merge

Folks over at J. Gold associates think Android and Symbian will eventually merge, since both platforms are pursuing and open-source-based strategy (see Why Going Open Source Works to Nokia’s Advantage). The former is the mobile OS initiative of Google, with the latter the most widely-used mobile OS in the world. Controlling stake of Symbian is owned by Nokia.
Unless the analyst firm knows something everyone doesn’t, this smacks of idealism at its finest. Nokia may want to tap the efforts of the vibrant open-source community, and Google has declared its intention to break the stranglehold of mobile operators on the mobile user experience. But that doesn’t mean the Finnish maker will give up it’s current dominance of the smartphone market, especially to a powerful potential competitor like Google.
It’s a wait and see on this one. Though the doubt level on this is pretty high right now. (toysgadget.com)
What do you think? Would Android and Symbian eventually copulate and become the ubiquitous mobile experience? Or would big-time network operators use their leverage to keep this from becoming reality? Leave a comment below please.
