LG Philips reveals 14.3-inch flexible e-paper for CES 2008

LG Philips flexible e-paper

Someday we’ll be able to see moving pictures on our daily newspapers, thanks to this upcoming flexible e-paper from LG Philips. LG Philips reveals some cool 14.3-inch flexible e-paper for CES 2008 that are 300 micrometers thick, with full 180° viewing angle.

The flexible e-paper display, has a resolution of 1,280 pixels by 800 pixels and can display 16.7-million colors. That makes it the highest resolution screen of its type yet developed, the company said, and is more advance that the display unveiled in May last year that offered just 4,096 colors. Unlike conventional LCD (liquid crystal display) panels that are made on glass, this screens are often produced on a flexible substrate so they can bend. At CES 2008 next week, the company also plans to show a mono e-paper screen equivalent in size to a B5 sheet of paper (176 mm by 250 mm). While not as impressive as the larger, color display, it is easier to manufacture and LG.Philips LCD said it plans to launch this latter display later in the year.

These low power, flexible, low eye strain displays are really going to revolutionize the way we do computing. Nice viewing angle too!

How about the marketing ability of something like that. I’m thinking DVD covers that can sell the product better than a static cover. Soup cans that have steaming soup… etc etc etc.!

Steve, great idea. How about a video of a Personal banker on your bank statements that explains all those crazy figures

Sure. Great idea, amazing dimensons for creative minds. But!
As everything in life, this creation has it’s dark sides too. E-paper can give opportunity to fake images as money, all gets again closer to allday illusions:) Yippie!

    Me no human, we robot.

    cheers
