Online Automotive Interaction Fueled by Social Networking

The concept driving Fuelly.com is simple: let users upload their mileage data and share it with everyone else. That way, you can check if your Civic is running efficiently compared to everyone else’s (including the EPA estimates). And even if you keep to yourself, you’re left with a clear record of how much gas your gulping up in-between fill-ups. Record-keeping is of course available for as many cars as you have, bunched under your user profile.
It’s the classic social networking model: get people to sign-up for an account, upload some personal info, and discuss the merits of said data. Instead of quick blog posts or pictures, you’ve got trip summaries and all-time average gas prices. And of course, brainwashed by the Apple marketing machine, the site’s two founders have even made an app for the iPhone (mobile Internet access required), allowing drivers to input their latest mileage data right away. It’s actually not an iPhone app, it’s a web app optimized for the iPhone but we have reports from users that it works just fine on their Blackberries, razr phones, etc.
