Philips SA 178 MP3 Player

Sometimes I get cheesed off when I can’t read the colour screen off my PDA. The sun really gets in your eyes literally and makes reading off a normal LED screen impossible. The saving grace comes in the form of OLED or Organic light-emitting diodes. Check out the Philips SA 178 MP3 Player that has a bright OLED display.

One of the great benefits of an OLED display over the traditional LCD displays found in computer displays is that OLED displays do not require a backlight to function. This means that they draw far less power and they can be used with small portable devices which have mostly been using monochrome low-resolution displays to conserve power. This will also mean that they will be able to last for long periods of time with the same amount of battery charge. Thanks to Wikipedia.

Sure, we’ve featured lots of MP3 players, but this one has a bright blue OLED display that you can see in almost any lighting conditions (ok, so the subject gave it away!). Yep, from dark to bright, you can see the large, 2-color LED display that has customizable color combos. This recahrgeable 512MB player also plays WMA files, includes an FM tuner and can record voice memos. It has a flip-out USB plugs that allows you to connect it to your computer and use it as a standard thumb drive.

Update :
Picture source updated. Peter Rojas from Engadget sent me an email.
