Plextor makes PX-AV200U DV Converter, Vista-compatible

Plextor PX-AV200U

Here is today’s announcement of the redesigned ConvertX Digital Video Converter from Plextor with a $69.00 price point. The converter’s new benefits include support for iPod and PlayStation Portable file formats.

The PX-AV200U is rebuilt from the ground up to deliver a host of new benefits to users. The plastic enclosure case has been replaced by a dongle with connectors for USB 2.0, S-Video In, Video In, and Audio In. It takes up no desk space at all and fits in a shirt pocket for easy portability. In addition to MPEG-1/2/4 video formats, the new ConvertX model supports iPod® and PlayStation® Portable file formats, enabling videos to be viewed anywhere on portable players. The PX-AV200U runs on the Microsoft® Windows® Vista operating system, as well as Windows XP.

    Well it used to be compatible since around march 15 2008, but after some vista updates (maybe SP1), it causes blue screen crashes (memory dump etc.)

    It would be nice if Plextor website was better organised as well to check for upgrades…(after checking, there is none)

    The same thing happened to me with Plextor’s PX-AV200u video-capture device. It worked fine with my 32-bit Vista Home Premium, until I installed SP1. Then I got the blue screen of death. I see a similar review on Amazon.com. The company’s tech support is unhelpful, but offered to replace the unit. I am certain that won’t work. (When I briefly uninstalled SP1, I was again able to use the thing.) It’s a software or firmware problem.

    I have just bought and installed the AV200u, but when I try to record the video I get a message in a small box saying “Record Error” and I can get no further.

    Sorry, better use this following link for Downloading NewSoft patches to upgrade their SW Digital Converter to ver 1.13 and fix definitively the problem : http://uk.newsoft.eu.com/tech-support/patch-Search.asp

    On this page you search downloads with :
    Product = !Presto Digital Converter
    OS = Windows
    Version = 1.0

    So you’ll find link for available Sw patches.

    That’s all !!
