This battery looks very safe and does not overheat. A positive temperature coefficient (PTC) sensor installed within the battery prevents the battery from overheating. Even if the battery is short-circuited, or inserted wrongly into the battery box, neither liquid leakage nor unusual heat generation will occur.

On July 21, 2005, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. will start marketing the “Toy Cell” a nickel-hydride secondary battery product series featuring a system to prevent overheating. The rechargeable battery is economical as it can be reused about 500 times. With the added safety features, the battery can be used in toys such as portable game consoles. The price is set at ¥2,500.

Nintendo Co., Ltd. has granted the Toy Cell a license as an official product compatible with its “Game Boy Advance R” portable game console.
