Sony has entered the compact Flash market segment with the launching of its very own compact flash card. It has a transfer speed of 66 times and comes in 3 memory capacities, 1 gb, 2 gb and 4 gb. There are also two higher end cards with transfer rate of 133 x which comes in capcity of 2 gb and 4 gb. All these cards will be available from May onwards. These cards will be the storage solution for its line of DSLR cameras which requires speed and performance. The 66 x transfer rate card has a data transfer rate of 10 mb/s read and 9 mb/s write. Its higher end cards will have a read speed and write speed of 20 mb/s. This will allow for more frame rates while shooting and a faster transfer time to a PC. A 4 gb card can store up to about 1500 pictures taken using a 10 megapixel camera in standard image settings. These cards will also be compatible with other devices that feature compact flash storage.

I hope they will abandon the memory stick with time and just use standard, universal storage media.
