What’s Up With Sexting?

Feel free to call me an old fogey who’s slowly turning into the harrumphing adult, the kind who was irritating when I was kid. But when did kids start thinking that sending “nude or nearly nude” photos of themselves to friends was an ok thing to do? A probably late news report summarizing the trend:

It’s like what JayeCuevas on YouTube said: “hey i have an idea! DON’T TAKE THOSE KIND OF PICS IN THE FIRST PLACE! now there’s a concept”. In any case, even adults need to learn that keeping a record of incriminating pics or text is simply asking for it. It doesn’t help that, with everything connected to the net, what you do foolishly becomes part of the permanent cyberspace history, free for people to check out even years later.

I don’t care if your hot or not. Nudity is best enjoyed up close and personal, free from any recording device. That is, unless you expose your body for a living.

Nokia N97 Up-Close First Impressions

Finally getting a to play with the Nokia N97, here are some first impressions:

The N97 is very similar in size to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in terms of thickness and width, and slightly longer. Will cause pocket bulge but is still impressive for a flagship.
Compared to the N96 and N95, the N97 is more responsive. Still a bit slow though, especially when trying to run apps that use connectivity a lot (Maybe using a phone under better 3G or 3.5G coverage will provide better results?
The sliding mechanism of the N97 is very solid and feels well made. A ribbon cable connects the upper part of the phone to the rest of the device. Very inaccessible, but this is a worrying vulnerability—cut the cable, goodbye phone?
The QWERTY keyboard feels a bit flat. Maybe the next model should take a cue from the E-series keyboard and use slightly rounded keys?
Why drop the plectrum/guitar key, used as the stylus for the 5800, and replace it with a detachable pen? Detachable = easily lost.

Sizing Up the 4G iPod nano

The fourth-generation iPod nano brings Apple’s smaller portable player back to its form factor roots, albeit through a smaller and more feature-laden package. To wit:

The newest iPod nano is oh so slightly thinner than its predecessor, and the displays of both the 3G and 4G variants are actually the same, in terms of size and max brightness. No idea on why Apple bumped the max video playback time to 3 hours though.
