The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3: What’s Hot, What’s Not

panasonic-lumix-dmc-fs3.jpgThroughout my use of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3, here’s what stood out for me:

What’s Hot

  • Really compact, small enough for pockets
  • Lightweight
  • 8.1 megapixels made affordable (market prices don’t go above $200)
  • Supports up to 4GB SDs
  • A battery that lasts the entire day
  • VGA (640 x 480) video capture capability
  • Lots of available colors (including black, silver, blue, pink)

What’s Not

  • Limited photography controls
  • Produces grainy pictures under lowlight conditions
  • Flash washes out everything; used rarely in my case

To summarize: I’m pretty happy with this camera, as it’s a very affordable compact that nevertheless is capable of producing spectacular photography. Just stay in well-lighted areas if you don’t want to use the flash! And get a high-capacity SD card (as mentioned above, the camera supports up to 4GB via SDHC) if you want to spend the whole day taking pictures!
