Thoroughbred Fever

Fair Grounds news for December 13th: Louisiana Champions Day, Pick 6 carryover

Friday (12-12-08) Fair Grounds recap

Off the turf following Thursday’s winter event. Good main track played fair. Middle to outer posts best with wide moves around the far turn the frequent path to victory.

James Graham and Brian Hernandez Jr. both booted home a pair.

Arctic Jet ($198.60) helped create yet another Pick 6 carryover.

Churchill invader Precious Kiss (Jacinto/Mouton) was a sharp going away winner of the optional claiming 9th.

Saturday (12-13-08) Fair Grounds preview

Louisiana Champions Day comprises Saturday’s 11-race card and includes a trio of Quarter Horse stakes events to kick off the festivities.

Weather: Partly sunny. High 64.

Races 1-2-3 (Quarter Horse Juvenile, Derby, Classic): In the Quarter Horse Juvenile, Toast To Jess is the 3-1 fav and one to beat. In the 400 yard Derby sharp filly McM Dont Look Back goes for 5 straight wins. In the 440 yard Classic, McM Dozen Dasher is probably the one to catch.

Race 4 ($50k Starter Handicap): First thoroughbred race carded. Autobeacat is the 9-5 morning line fav, but note that he is also entered in the Turf and Classic later in the day.

Race 5 ($100k Ladies): The talented mare Tortuga Flats is entered here and the Turf. She loves to win races and must always be respected. My MySpace free selection of the day.

Race 6 ($100k Juvenile): Pick 6 starts here with a carryover of $11,098. Foreign Production is the deserving favorite and Pick 6 single on many tickets. Below is a YouTube replay of his last race.

Race 7 ($100k Ladies): Superior Storm is the fav breaking from the rail. She is 5-7 this year and won 4 straight before finishing 2nd in her local sprint prep for this.

Race 8 ($100k Lassie): Wide open race. 7-2 fav Seven Seventythree might be better on synthetic.

Race 9 ($100k Turf): Three-year-old Lee’s Spirit is the 3-1 choice in a competitive turf event. Desert Wheat may end up favored following local main track stakes win (YouTube replay below), and he is better on turf anyway.

Race 10 ($150k Classic):
Star Production is the favorite and one to catch. He received a much needed break following disappointing last place Super Derby finish.

Race 11 ($100k Sprint): Star Guitar is 3-3 at Fair Grounds, and note that he is also entered in the Classic. Below is a YouTube replay of his Nov 23rd race.
