July 5th Louisiana Downs recap
Wet weather forced the turf races to the sloppy main track, which was upgraded to muddy by race 7. Normal edge to edge/pressing types.
Before Her Time wanted turf in the 3rd, but she remained in despite the surface transfer. She was hardly disgraced in clear show finish and will appreciate a return to the sod next time.
Back classer Zarb’s Dahar dove down to the $5k level and was clearly best in the 6th. Would like to see him scurry back up the ladder next time. My value top Northern Identity was clearly 2nd best.
Regency Square was a bold outside presence turning for home in the 8th, but he could not sustain his run at seven panels. Look for him to cut back to six furlongs next time.
July 9th preview
Thursday’s 9-race card from Louisiana Downs features three grass races and includes a Pick 6 carryover of $4,424.
My best bet can be found in the 4th race. Snooky’s Image goes turf to dirt after decent show finish behind a couple of quality grass sprinters last time. Barn is 26% with horses making their 3rd start off the shelf.
Twining’s Cat (race 6) is my longshot play of the day. She hails from a crafty barn and was wide every step of the way in a show finish here last time.
