Thoroughbred Fever

Proud Spell opts for Kentucky Oaks; Eight Belles Derby bound

Larry Jones has finalized plans for his two talented fillies, and Proud Spell is first up in the Kentucky Oaks on May 2nd. She worked five furlongs in :58-2/5 with a 1:12-4/5 gallop out on April 27th. Sharp, improving filly looms an obvious prominent throughout presence in her next start.

Eight Belles went :58-1/5 on the same day, and she stretched her legs for seven furlongs in 1:25. She will likely take on the boys in the Derby. The big daughter of Unbridled’s Song is clearly tough, talented and seasoned, but she reportedly will not go in the Derby if she draws a bad post position.
