There are no less than four Saturday Derby preps on tap, and each day this week I will preview one, starting with the Louisiana Derby.
I liked Patena in the Lecomte, and he ran on nicely to land the place in his initial try over conventional dirt. Saturday’s nine furlong Holy Bull (G3) is the longest Kentucky Derby prep so far, and eleven sophomores have signed up for the challenge.
Danger To Society (Harlan’s Holiday) is 2-2 for Robby Albarado/Ken McPeek, and he exits a smart course/distance tally off a layoff. He owns fine positional speed and lands an advantageous inner post.

Sunday (12-14-08) Fair Grounds recap
Albarado and Lanerie both booted home a pair. Two more wins for hot trainer Morris Nicks.
Groovy Luck sped to the front and gamely held off Amoss trainee Cya Later Bert for a hard fought 3/4s of a length victory in the turf sprint feature.

A trio of wire jobs on a fair main track. Edge to stalkers and closers on the turf.
James Graham and Francisco Torres both booted home a pair. Tom Amoss saddled two winners on the card.
Second time starter Cajun Sky (Torres/Duhon) ran a winning race in the grassy 3rd, but she was necked by Morris Nicks firster Say The Word (Albarado). It was 6.75 lengths back to show finisher Elle Ray Dew.
