Lost in the crush of the Breeders’ Cup frenzy was my final notes on the Louisiana Downs meet, which concluded on Oct 4th. Below is a belated wrap of the LAD season in words and pictures. Click on the name of each horse to view stakes replays.
Here are the horses that I voted for in the LAD meet champion categories…

September 18th Louisiana Downs Recap
Sloppy track and off the turf once again. Main track played fair.
Hat trick for leading rider Don Simington.
Kept the analysis hot streak going with four winning top choices including best bet Izzy Golden ($7.80). Note that daily late Pick 4 play will resume on Saturday with $100k guaranteed pool. We did not have time to work up the graphics, etc. with all of the Super Derby preparations on Thursday and Friday.

July 4th recap
Stalkers fared best on the main. Early/pressing types held the edge on the sod.
Richard Eramia and Sidney Lejeune both booted home a pair. Ramsey Zimmerman/Bret Calhoun teamed up for two wins on the card.
Decent day on the handicapping front with 4 tops getting the job done, including pair of cold trifectas.
Category Seven looked good in the stakes quality optional claiming opener, and that was her 8th exacta finish in as many starts this year. Martin’s Bay gamely held the place over Tortuga Flats.
My best bet Coulter Stone landed the show in 4th.

Monday (2-9-09) Fair Grounds recap
Edge to early/pressing types on the main. Turf course favored stalkers and closers.
Corey Lanerie booted home a pair, and Carlos Gonzalez/Bret Calhoun teamed up for two wins on the day.
Heart Ashley was a sharp winner of the entry level 5th, and Steve Asmussen has a decent 3yo filly sprinter on his hands.
Category Seven has been on a roll since moving to the local green. She easily cleared the three lifetime hurdle today, and look for her to be competitive versus tougher next time.
