Derby News: The Boys Got Lucky

Derby News: The Boys Got Lucky

I think we saw the 2009 Derby winner on Friday, but she ran in the Oaks…did she ever!
Rachel Alexandra turned in a brilliant work earlier in the week, and she completely dismantled her foes in the 135th Kentucky Oaks (G1). She has won all five of her routes in effortless fashion, and there is not a three-year-old filly in the land that can make her work up a sweat.

She attracts Prado and could be sitting on a smasher in her third race off the shelf.
Bsharpsonata had her four race win streak snapped in a neck defeat in the Ashland (polytrack) last time, and the versatile six for …read more

Proud Spell opts for Kentucky Oaks; Eight Belles Derby bound

Larry Jones has finalized plans for his two talented fillies, and Proud Spell is first up in the Kentucky Oaks on May 2nd. She worked five furlongs in :58-2/5 with a 1:12-4/5 gallop out on April 27th. Sharp, improving filly looms an obvious prominent throughout presence in her next start.
Eight Belles went :58-1/5 on the same day, and she stretched her legs for seven furlongs in 1:25. She will likely take on the boys in the Derby. The big daughter of Unbridled’s Song is clearly tough, talented and seasoned, but she reportedly will not go in the Derby if …read more
