LAD Today – July 24th

July 23rd Recap
Fast main track and off the turf. Early-pressing types dominated.
Richard Eramia, Carlos Gonzalez, and Don Simington each booted home a pair. Ramsey Zimmerman/Pat Mouton teamed up for two wins. James Hodgges and Pam Simpson two winners on the card.
Big day on the analysis front. Got five tops home. Three 2nd choices got the job done, and my 3rd choice nabbed one, so I swept the card with my top three. Longshot of the day scratched, and best bet Sippi Fever ($4.40) won easily.
Joey’s Mizzen Mast finished 2nd behind runaway winner King Of The Bayou in the 7th. The extended sprint was …read more

LAD Today – June 25th

June 21st recap
Edge to early/pressing types on main. Stalkers performed well on the turf.
Richard Eramia booted home a pair. James Hodges and Pat Mouton both saddled two winners on the day.
Got my best bet Big Al’s Madraar ($7.80) home.

June 25th preview
A 9-race card on tap for Thursday, including a trio of turf events. Hot and sunny with fast and firm conditions expected.
Bee Bayou (15-1) is my longshot to watch in the 8th. He switches surfaces, cuts back in distance, and owns competitive speed ratings.
In today’s finale, Joey’s Mizzen Mast is my best bet of the day. He is …read more

Mouton Rules the Day at LAD

It was a strange day at Louisiana Downs on May 23rd.
On and off showers forced the 7th race off the turf, and Say The Word was seemingly on his way to victory when he jumped starting gate tracks and dumped Patrick Valenzuela in midstretch.
In the finale, Slambam Sammy veered in at the start and dropped Lonnie Meche. He jumped the rail and ran loose on the turf course.

There was some quality racing between the oddities, and trainer Pat Mouton saddled four consecutive winners (races 3-6). Veteran pilot E. J. Perrodin was the rider of choice for the first three, …read more

Louisiana Downs week in review (August 7th-10th)
by Jarrod Horak (Louisiana Downs Track Handicapper/TV Host)
I had a solid week handicapping with 10 on top winners through Saturday, but I was only able to get one top choice home in a peculiar Sunday card. Weather played a factor with no turf racing on Friday/Saturday, and we were back on the sod Sunday although the unsettled weather crept back in…
Thursday (August 7th)
Outer lanes were good to start the race week, and the main track continues to play fair with the usual edge to early/pressing types.
Shorebreeze Bandit sure looked good winning the …read more
