Louisiana Downs Today – Oct 2nd

October 1st Louisiana Downs Recap
Fast and firm conditions on Thursday. Both surfaces seemed to play fair, and if there was any edge on the main, it appears to be with stalking types.
Sidney Lejeune Jr. booted home a pair.
First timer Centava was impressive in the 5th. She put away a couple of pace rivals, including heavy fav Big Red Grape, and she coasted home nine lengths to the good. ‘Cisco Torres booted home the daughter of Exchange Rate for Henry B Johnson Jr. Worth following.
Got a pair of tops home. Longshot play of the day Sequoia King scratched, and best bet Touch of …read more

Louisiana Downs Today – Oct 1st

September 27th Louisiana Downs Recap
Fast and firm conditions on Sunday. Main track played fair, and stalkers held the edge on the turf.
Sidney Lejeune Jr. and Ramsey Zimmerman both booted home a pair.
Wildrally won again over the local green and will be sad to see this meet end.
Got a pair of tops home including best bet Friendly Patriot ($5.40).
October 1st Preview
Weather: Isolated Thunderstorms (30% chance). High 85.
Thursday’s 9-race card features a pair of grass races and includes a Pick 6 carryover of $4,481.
Touch of Iron (6th race) is my best bet on the card. He makes his 3rd …read more

LAD This Week – August 27th

August 23rd Louisiana Downs Recap
Both surfaces seemed to play fair.
Sidney Lejeune Jr. booted home a pair, and Jason Eads/Eric Guillot teamed up for two wins on the card.
Another 3 out of 4 in our new Pick 4 ticket segment. Looking to seal the deal this week.
We had a bad spill in Sunday’s finale, and I blogged about it earlier. Five jockeys and horses went down, and Lonnie Meche and Rico Flores will both miss several weeks with injuries. E J Perrodin, ’Cisco Torres, and PVal should be back in action this week.
August 27th Preview
Weather: Partly cloudy. High 90.

LAD This Weekend – August 22nd

August 21st Louisiana Downs Recap
Strong day for early/pressing types on the main. Turf course played fair.
Sidney Lejeune and Don Simington both booted home a pair.
Spooky’s Ready looked good in an easy wire job maiden tally in the 8th. First timer Big Red Grape took early action and ended up an okay 4th. Would not be surprised if he moved way up 2nd time out.
I bounced to the moon with my analysis. The worm turned as my 6 winning tops on Thursday were a distant memory. One chalky top got the job done on Friday. Longshot play of the …read more

LAD This Weekend – July 11th

July 10th Louisiana Downs recap
Main favored early/pressing types early; fair late. A pair of wire jobs at 8.5f on the weeds.
My four-bagger streak ended as I got a pair of tops home on a tough Friday card. In the grassy 8th race, my best bet Messy Marvin had nowhere to roam along the inside in the stretch. Next time with clear sailing.
Sidney Lejeune Jr. booted home a pair. Michelle Lovell saddled two more winners.  She’s been hot all meet!

July 11th preview
Saturday’s 10-race card features four grass races and includes a Pick 6 carryover of $5,226.
Expectmoney (race 4) is my best …read more

Sunday at LAD – June 28th

June 27th recap
Hot and humid conditions once again on Saturday. Early/pressing types dominated on the main. Turf course seemed to favor stalkers and closers.
Went 5-for10 with my top selections.
Hat trick for Sidney Lejeune Jr.
Made it two-for-two with my Horses To Watch . Just Plain Wayne ($4.40) got the job done on Friday, and it was Burt’s A Stitch ($2.60) today. Both recent graduates hail from the fine Michelle Lovell barn.
Best Bet Sligo Joe did not have the cleanest trip in the 7th. He missed 2nd by a head and is worth following. SoCal transplant Angelonmyshoulder was a visually impressive winner for the 2nd …read more
