August 1st Louisiana Downs Recap
Sloppy and off the turf for Louisiana Cup day. Wet main track played fair.
Leading rider Don Simington booted home a pair. Curt Bourque won a pair as well.
My best bet Master Link ($5.20) prevailed in the Louisiana Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. PVal rodes the winner for Morris Nicks.
My longshot play of the day Takin’ The Bullet was bet down to 3-1 and set a pressured pace before weakening to 3rd in the LA Cup Derby.
Got a trio of tops home, and my 2nd and 3rd choices won five races. I remain in a steady groove.

Fair Grounds news for December 13th: Louisiana Champions Day review, Pick 6 carryover

Saturday (12-13-08) Fair Grounds recap
Main track played fair with an edge to horses within striking distance. Lone turf race carded was taken by an off the pace type.
Robby Albarado and John Jacinto both booted home a pair on Louisiana Champions Day.
Race 1 (Quarter Horse Juvenile): Martini Mountain ($7.40) was sharp in victory as the 2nd betting choice. Disappointing 6-5 fav Toast to Jess was never a factor.
Race 2 (Quarter Horse Derby): McM Dont Look Back was disappointing as the filly fav, but the distaff set was rescued by razor sharp winner Mon Ti Rose ($10.60). …read more

Friday (12-12-08) Fair Grounds recap
Off the turf following Thursday’s winter event. Good main track played fair. Middle to outer posts best with wide moves around the far turn the frequent path to victory.
James Graham and Brian Hernandez Jr. both booted home a pair.
Arctic Jet ($198.60) helped create yet another Pick 6 carryover.
Churchill invader Precious Kiss (Jacinto/Mouton) was a sharp going away winner of the optional claiming 9th.

Louisiana Champions Day comprises Saturday’s 11-race card and includes a trio of Quarter Horse stakes events to kick off the festivities.

Fair Grounds recap (11-15-08)
Fast main track and off the turf on Saturday. In a virtual replay of opening day, early/pressing types held the advantage early, and the track played fair as the day wore on.
Leading rider Pat Valenzuela booted home a pair for the 2nd straight day, and he teamed up to win a stakes race with Bill Mott again as well. Theriot/Autrey teamed up for two winners on opening day and another on Saturday. They also finished 2nd twice today.
